Clogged external oil cooler?
Greetings,
Have a 2012 SS w/ auto L99 engine. Was wondering what symptoms a restricted Clogged factory external oil cooler would have on operation and oli pressure? I seem to have good oil pressure on start up but at full warm up ( oil temp 225F) it reads low approx 5 ( or lower a Psi at idle.( not gauge, sensor.) Used mechanical gauge with same pressure reading. Tnx |

I don't know how a clogged oil cooler would behave but I would say there have been a lot of failed oil pumps around here especially with the LS3. Apparently the L99 can suffer the same fate with them but I can't recall reading of one on the L99. So just a suggestion to check the oil pump.
These coolers seem to act as a heater during warm up as much as a cooler when normal temps so the fluid doesn't bypass the cooler during warm up which would point to it if it did. |

There is a pressure relif in the oil pump that could b clogged the o ring on pick up tube could b tore or shrunk and hardened im in process of doing all this on my 08 silverado with 250k but opposite problems as you no pressure when cold and 40 psi when warm. Are you throwing any codes the vlom(valve lifter oil management)is a common problem or check the filter under the oil pressure sensor
As for oil cooler just delete it i did that same time i did headers on the car think it was about 20 bucks in parts to delete

Just to update did oil pump on truck shes back up to 60psi cold. crusing psi is at about 50 55 psi not bad for 250k miles
