Below is what happens. If you plan on keeping your car for more than a few years, a good catch can is THE BEST investment you can make in it's long term well being.

Okay now im kinda worried. As for example if my valves do look like this.... I do have 63000 miles so chances are my valves have gum up...... What can I do to get rid of that? because obviously after all this im going to be ordering a catch can asap. What additive is ACTUALLY going to WORK!?!?

My car has 2017 miles on it without a catch can. I wonder how much gunk is in there? Wonder if its worth it or not to take it to be cleaned and then put the can on (OR) skip the clean ( Not too many miles) and just put a can on it and be done.

What say ye All?

I put mine on late at 20,000 and I am doing fine s far at almost 70,000. Sooner the better at your mileage you are still real clean

I wouldnt be worried honestly. I would recommend a BG upper induction cleaning or let the dealer do it, but that kind of expensive at least to me.

Then get the catch can.

I put my catch can on at 12,xxx and there was very little junk on my valves...only 2,xxx miles there shouldnt be a lot of junk at all, but every car is different.

Once you get the catch can, as long as you're putting Top tier fuel in (Premium would be the best, but 87 is 'ok' too) you should be fine.

Save your money by going to a dealer and just get a can of Seafoam from the auto part store. If you can take off the TB you are golden as you can just do the spray part of the Seafoam process as I stated up top is how most do it now. Other take it to the next level to ensure a good cleaning.

Here is a DIY video that was posted awhile back.

As others have mentioned, you can get an upper induction cleaning done and then add your catch can. Then you will be good to go.

Yes all that needs to be done if you follow the link I posted. Which is exactly what the dealer is going to do anyway. But maybe with a different brand product not sure.

You won't be cleaning any of it, no fuel goes thru the intake manifold. Only air goes thru the manifold. These engines are direct injected. Which is why the top of the valves can get gummed up.

Here is a photo of my valves after 13k miles then added a catch can for the past 33K miles. I was replacing my manifold this past weekend so I took some photos.

Also for those that have never done the seafoam process. A simple way to do the spray portion of cleaning the the IM you can spray it in this location where I have a picture of. I spray in like 4 squeezes every oil change for the hell of it. Do it while the car is warm and running. It will idle up and down as you spray so dont freak out.
