Can u explain what you mean by straight pipe? Did you remove resonators, the h pipe, cats, or all of them? The x pipe is basically magnaflow muffler that has an x pipe in it. Its usually put where the stock h pipe is

I think the real question is what sound are you going for?
If V8....sorry, if you want a nice V6 sound. You have to figure out if you want loud, clean etc IF your on a budget and want to clean up the sound, get a resonated x pipe and gave that installed where the factory h pipe is. It will clean up the sound

I'm thinking help here is probably pointless.
Your brothers were probably expecting deep muscle car sound, which isn't going to happen with the V6. Did you use the round body mufflers or oval style? The round seem to be a bit more high pitched. Have you tried going through some of the videos in the exhaust sticky in the V6 section just to compare what your car sounds like to other setups? I'd recommend find some good speakers or headphones and listening to some. Listen to some with just exhaust changes, then listen to some with shorty headers, and finally listen to some of them with LT headers like the BBK headers, and you should get a decent idea of what it takes to get the various sounds out of this car.

If I understand correctly, you just replaced the mufflers right? With the v6, you're not going to get that deep sound until you at least get headers and the resonated x pipe. And even then, in the high rpms, it will get high pitched. There are no "deeper" sounding exhausts than the magnaflow so anything else you might be able to get is actually going to sound more high pitched. |

I'd get the x-pipe over the resonators

You already have the stock resonators. If you are wanting to try more resonators, I'd just chuck the stock H pipe for a magnaflow dual in Dual out X pipe (muffler)
I'm not sure what Magnaflow mufflers you are running, but if you ended up doing the resonated X and kept the mufflers you'd end up with something pretty close to what I'm running. Plenty of pictures and video in this thread: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78932 I think my setup has a very nice tone. The only problem for me is that there is not enough growl. I'd like to add more growl, but that means I'm going to have to dump the rear magnaflow mufflers for something else. The reason I haven't taken the plunge is because I'm afraid I will gain drone and possibly either some rasp, or my exhaust note will be higher pitched. LT headers added to this though, would really be sweet.

The xpipe will definitely quiet you down. If you add headers it will waken the deeper sound to some extent. I will say I have the round magnaflows and after 50k the sound is getting more raspy.
