How to tell if TTY bolts are tight enough?

I bought a torque angle gauge to use when torquing the head bolts on my L99. The problem is, the dial didn't always move even though the bolt was turning. Now I'm left with not knowing if the bolts are tight enough.

Has any "converted" the 22 lb ft, plus 90 degrees plus 70 degrees to ft lbs? I was hoping to use this as a double checker.

That's the number one reason to use ARP bolts vs the crap tty OEM bolts. I have no experience trying to convert because the whole point of a tty design depends on a certain amount of stretch and strain put on the bolt. Once it has been achieved, it is no longer able to be stretched again and must be thrown away.

Earl's sells head bolts that are cheaper than arp but still really nice. Way better than tty...

The whole point of TTY bolts is to insure clamping force over a range of friction conditions.

You tighten to the prescribed torque, then go 1/4 turn regardless of torque reading. While the bolt is yielding, your torque reading is not going to change much.

So there's no "conversion".

x lb/ft + 90 degrees = torque down to the initial number, then get a marker, and make 2 marks, one on the bolt, and one on its mating surface 1/4 turn away. Tighten until they line up.

Pic of angle gauge? Usually has an arm that extends to "lock" it down. Then set the gauge to zero. Was the arm secure?
