Congrats on COTW Geoff!
Maybe when mine is back together I'll come back to Houston for a track day.

We're putting together a track day 23 Oct at Grandsport just south of Houston. You're invited for sure

it's been a while since i posted enhancements to the car.
i added the ZL1 front belly pan. i trimmed the small rubber "air dam" to match the Z28 position. to be honest, i don't feel any additional downforce or see any oil/water temp difference. i'm still gonna keep it on the car though. only down side is that it needs to be removed for an oil change...............not a real hassle, just adds a few more minutes to the task. good discussion here http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=387982

poor hot start

for quite a while i've had a poor hot start issue. the starter would turn slow when the engine was hot, but would be fine when cold. i cleaned the connections (both +/-) multiple times, bought a high torque starter, wrapped the starter, wrapped the headers..............all would seem to make things better for a while and then it would start up again. it was driving me NUTS! sometimes it would not start at all and/or the stabilitrack failure message would show up on the DIC.
i ran a single "0" gauge wire from the battery directly to the starter. WOW, what a difference! the starter spins the engine much faster when cold and no slow down when hot. there were several folks that had good luck adding only a jumper around the post in the engine bay, i went for over kill. i'm really happy with the outcome

2 mods for performance & 1 for fun

Caster bolt:
I slotted the bolt hole for the front radius arm to increase the caster. It is handy that GM put the fences on the front cradle. The car is now up to 7 degrees on both sides. I was amazed at how much it improved the feel of the car, it is more stable at speed. I'll get it to the track early Aug to see how it helps through the corners.
It was a bit more involved than I thought it would be. Once the front facia was off along with both the windshield washer bottle and the radiator overflow tank it was easy to get to. Then some careful time spent with a die grinder and a rat tail file.........straight forward, just a bit time consuming.

Brakes:
The car has had 6 piston Brembos on the front for quite some time. I am very pleased with the performance at the track and on the street. Since I started with the yellow CTS-V calipers, they needed to be repainted. The paint went well and I feel looked great. HOWEVER, heat from the track discolored the high temp clear I put over the stickers (put on stickers to make it look stockish).
The factory red paint on the rear calipers holds up quite well. Granted, they don't see as much heat as the fronts do. Factory paint plus the new cooling pistons helped me justify the Vette calipers. They will go on after one more track weekend, the rotors are just starting to crack so everything will be replaced at once.

ZL1 Belly Pan - revisited

I've noticed that the hood shakes quite a bit at speed. It started when the belly pan was put on. This led me to believe that there was high pressure in the engine compartment. There are 3 fixes for it.........1) put a vent in the hood to let the air out, 2) remove the weather seal at the rear of the hood or 3) remove the belly pan.
I don't want to cut my hood and even though there are plenty of '14-15 SS camaros in recycle yards (flooded by Harvey) $850 is a bit steep and I'd still have to wrap it.
In case of an engine fire, I'd like to delay flames on the windshield as long as possible so I can get the car stopped. I know, a very small chance of this happening, but................
So I took the belly pan off.
