No more than a half second between them in a quarter anybody can look this stuff up. 0-60 virtually identical. Very close. On the track video only the straights make any difference at all.

The biggest difference between the two is the price

I test drove a 2LT C8 with the Z51 package this morning. The dealership has it priced 5k under MSRP. The car is nice, but I'm not sure I would enjoy the car long term as I've always been a manual guy. On top of that the 150 hp difference is noticeable. However, the C8s mid engine design and lower weight makes it accelerate just as fast if not faster.

Curious if any other ZL1 owners are or have considered a C8.
Your priorities are different than mine.
I'll list mine in more or less in order
Price
Reliability
HP for straight runs

Looks cool
Safety electronic aids including driving assists
trunk and interior space
far lower on the list:

road track handling

C8 best vs ZL1 that order isn't the same at all. I would give high marks to the C8 on looks cool and road track and dig out of the hole.
Reliability comments get peoples panties in a wad, just like the valve guide problems on the 427 motors. "Mine ain't got nun motor don't make no noise at all" until it self destructs.

I like the C8s for what they are but I won't buy one. Last year I got a daily that does match my list except looks cool or road track and I won't talk about that here as it is off topic to this thread and get's peoples panties in a wad also.

There is significantly more to a z06 than .5 a second in the quarter. Also it's only that close from a launch. Go from a highway roll or exit out of a corner on a track and the z06 will walk away from the standard C8. The z06 traps 9mph higher in the quarter. These cars aren't even in the same league. Remember the point of the z06 isn't even to be the fastest car in the quarter yet it's still pretty quick AND it has a decent tap speed. Around VIR the Z06 is literally 10+ seconds faster than the C8 Z51. This is why people buy the Z06.

I shopped a C8 on my last car, No ZL1s were available. I wanted a convertible and to get a decent on you need to be in at least a 2LT. And the 2LT verts around the country are at 80K-ish. I just did not feel it was worth that much.

All this bickering, for Fran the GT3 RS all day everyday and twice on Sunday. Even at a 0.11 loss. Any if we are fooling around with just raw numbers that Viper ACR would come before the Z06 also. You want to talk driving dynamics and not just times? Both those cars are 1000s time better.

But I am just a goon/lemming. So what do I know.

EDITED for Z vs Z06, not to confuse ZL1, which honestly I might take over a Z06 for the TR606 and waaaWaaaaWAaaaaWAAAAAA

For me and if I had a big wallet....

My garage would be:

1) C8 Z06

2) C8 ZR1

3) 911 GT3

4) 458

5) Aventador

6) Lotus Emira

7) Viper ACR

8) 2019 GT350

So many great cars, etc. I would love to own them all. Just don't have the money nor garage space.

Some good debate on performance of each C8. But does one really care about each step up for their own usage.
For me it comes down to a question if you could afford any of them easily then would you get any c8 or stick to something much less in your twilight years and leave the money to your heirs?

Hello Silver I’m not getting any younger myself. lol. A few months back I watched a guy probably 80ish having a really hard time getting back into his c8 at the store. They’re even harder to get out of! I decided if I was ever going to do one of these it better be soon cause I don’t want to look like this fellow that waited too long plus I want to be able to drive it properly before too old. I have 2 kids and I’ll leave them each a cool car they don’t have any problem with that cause I’ve had a lot over the years still have my Hayabusa too.
I gathered enough cash for a black wing ironically enough (hawk in previous post) and changed my mind. I early retired at 52 almost old enough for SS now so I still have time for a vette lol

You Both Are Right

I bought a C8 before there was the Z06 option. Then the Z06 came out and you had to wait forever and pay a markup. Now that you can just order a Z06 and get it in a timely manner for a reasonable price I considered the upgrade, but decided the SR is plenty enough car for me.

Is the Z06 better than the SR? Absolutely.

Is the SR plenty enough car for 99% of the drivers on Earth. Absolutely.

Is it worth the extra money to upgrade to the Z06? Totally depends on the person and, since 99% of the people on Earth cannot drive the SR at 10/10, it is not really a quantitative measurement but a qualitative one. If the Z06 makes a person happier it is worth it.

Right? I think there is a place for both SR and Z06, there's not one right choice. Depends on the person. No one can reasonably refute that.

SR is a great price for what you get and still a great car. Z06 has a special engine with amazing acoustics, and aesthetics to match. Maybe the SR isn't enough for someone, that's fine. Maybe it is, and that's.. also fine!

Agreed, and I stated just that very early in this thread. I think it was the first page. Having owned both, they are both great cars, it's just that the Z06 is a huge step up from the Stingray just as I expect the ZR1 to be a huge step up above the Z06. I'm in contact with several dealers to get on a waiting list for a ZR1, but we'll see how it pans out. All of the C8 Corvettes are huge step forward from the C7.
