Zl1 Misfire Update
Looking for advice on an update to a previous post:
Original thread: https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=626539 So the dealer finally got back to me with an update. They are claiming the motor needs a rebuild at the tune of $20k. This seems insane given that the car has only 6k miles and is 10 years old. Has anyone had any similar issues with their ZL1’s? |

Get a second opinion, it's very unlikely that you would need a rebuild at 15X the milage you have.

Agreed, take it to a reputable shop and get a second opinion. Stay away from them shysters!! No way you need a rebuild with that low mileage!!

If they can't tell you exactly why it needs a complete rebuild, how can you be sure they're right? A performance engine builder in your area is where I would go. The local drag strip, cars and coffee, etc. Someone will say "There's a guy who's been building LS engines for years.....". Anything but the dealership.

If the shop is legitimate then the quote should indicate what the problem is.

Get a compression test and a leak down. Cars that sit a lot can get up to no good. Mechanical componrnts like lifters, bearings, seals, heater cores all need lubricant and fluids moving.
Good luck. |

What answer do you expect this time? We told you last time it is unlikely and we need more test info to help you.
It is like poping up here saying I have stage3 cancer according to doctor is that correct and not providing any testing of blood or imaging results but expect us to agree or disagree. Its nuts. |

Probably nothing! If it were me, and I had all that time between July and now, I would have checked everything from coils, plugs, wires, connectors, valve springs, injectors etc...
