Yeah, but only if it's pro street.

My rationale is: Z/28 is the competitor to the Mustang GT350, and if the supercharged LT1 is good enough for the Corvette Z06, then it should suffice for the trackable Camaro.

I like the way they have it now - a NA track car that folks can fairly easily mod to get the extra HP they want and make it a freakin monster.

I'd be fine with anything they do with the next Z/28 as long as the LT4 goes in the next ZL1.

P.S., i think the current ZL1 handles the track quite nicely, just not a 98% track focused car like the Z/28

I would have liked the gen5 Z/28 to have had the ZL1 tires and brakes, LS7, etc. and an option to add the CC brakes and Trofeo tires. I do however admire the purity of the Z/28.

I've wondered if the production goals for the Z/28 are being met. I recall 1500 units needed to not loose money. Al O promised the bean counters it would not loose money! That's why I mentioned optioning the gen6 Z/28 similar to the C7 Z06 w/Z07 to bring the entry price down.

I really wanted an LS7 Camaro but couldn't justify running those tires and brakes for the way I use my car.

I understand your rational but I disagree. The Z06 is no longer a focused track car. It's more of a grand touring car. Putting a blown small block, auto Trans and convertible model show a shift of priorities.

First, T-tops all but impossible due to federal roof crush standards. Not impossible but would add a LOT of weight to get a roof panel to handle the loads (refer to my previous post)

Hatch back, although a market differentiator, would destroy the body structure and put the Camaro at a huge disadvantage for body stiffness. Again can be compensated for but would add a LOT of weight.

So T-tops that pass roof strength and a hatch that doesn't compromise body stiffness would be the smaller more svelte Alpha based car that weighs about what a ZL1 does today.

So it's possible from a technical perspective, just not plausible.

Sorry

I don't know what exactly mustang will do with their lineup. I don't see the LS7 continuing, so that means LT1 and LT4 available, so most likely not going to be a Z/28 and ZL1.
whichever it is it will be an unbelievable road and track car like the new ZO6.

Oh, no doubt the Alpha platform should spawn a superb performance car. I'll bet the 6th gen SS handles as well as the current 1LE.

Whatever the engine size (4-6 or 8 cyl. ) I expect the Camaro to be fastest in each class , within a acceptable price range ,
