To a degree he does kind of have a point. The cost of living is going up everywhere. Its definitely nothing close to California where you need a $300k salary to even consider owning a home, but in alot of metro's we are seeing the average cost of housing rising from the mid 200k to the low 300k mark while wages are not going up.

At the same token though, I heavily doubt that personal vehicle ownership will be phased out in only 20 years. I personally work pretty close with Waymo, Autonomous cars are still very limited in capability. For them to work properly, infrastructure surrounding them, including legal frameworks would have to be completely reconstructed, and thats not happening anytime soon.

every part of the country has their problems and complaints. Only lived here for 5 years and it's by far better than the north east ...and i'd never consider anywhere in the bible belt.

my pessimistic posts are more about car culture future in general looking bad.

As I read these posts I’m getting more and more depressed! Lol! I’m glad I only have another 20 years or so on this planet. I’m also very grateful that I have been able to participate in the BEST era of automotive performance of all time! Huge HP, Performance, and amazing sports/muscle cars have made life a blast in the past 10 years for those of us that appreciate such things! The writing is on the wall folks! Enjoy them while you have them!

and some still are! There is a reason that GM & Ford are going away from small cars & sedans. Kia & Hyundai have come a long way, while Honda & Toyota aren't sitting around playing Checkers!

I see a continuation of co development of parts, the A10 transmission being a prime example. But an out right merger seems far fetched and an attention grab of a head line.

Considering the government tried to convince GM to take Chrysler in the bankruptcy, I guess anything is possible.

However there is no advantage until you eliminate redundancies. This merged company wouldn’t need a Camaro and a Mustang. It sure wouldn’t want to invest 3 Billion for a new GM pickup and then another 3 Billion for a Ford.

The resultant company would simply start slashing models to reduce costs.

Now 30 years from now when an EV powertrain eliminate one major differentiator and people are renting/sharing transportation, who knows.

I'm for it, I think. GM has the tech and R&D, Ford has proven to make more exciting products as a whole, better in touch with what consumers want. Could be a win.

Frankly, I think it a shame that imported cars are being purchased by American citizens.
Lol, it’s a global economy now. Is it bad if I buy a Tundra that was built here in Texas? How about a Hyundai built in Alabama? Or maybe a BMW built in South Carolina?

Self Driving is exceedingly progressing, Some key cities are already testing it out.

I believe in about 50 years from now the steering wheel will no longer be seen in a car.

Hell to take it even further, I believe we wont even own cars anymore but have free transport buses/cars to take us around.
