Im wondering how it will play out with the incorporation of the Gen V engine (you know it's coming).

Since it seems the Z28 is far off, GM might wait for the Camaro to incorporate the new direct injection V8 before adding another model. Then again, they could add a high end V8 model soon and upgrade all three, like they did in 1998 when we switched from LT to LS. Iiiinteresting....

They cant.

Imagine the sudden drop in orders if they announced a z28 within the year.

At the moment, the die hard Camaro freaks are getting the current run. If they suddenly announced, yeah, we have a z28 in design phase, all those camaro freaks would back out of their orders or not buy, until the z28 was out.

... Wait...

Yeah, they should announced it. Cause I want to see 6 SS's on lots that have been sitting there for awhile, so I can say, "Yeah, I'll take .... THAT one.... @ invoice..."

Or maybe many forces inside GM are dying to go ahead and build the car while other forces both inside and outside GM are restricting its ability to do so and the ultimate resolution is unknown to anyone at this time (as has been said by many people in-the-know). That stuff you read in the newspaper about GM fighting for its survival is real.

Doc and Super38Z both have a lot of this spot on. If I missed anyone then please forgive me, I'm entering my bit in the immortal pages of history here.
The Z28 was an RPO option the literally grew it's own legs and walked into fame, not a plan by GM. An largely in part to comply with racing regulations as well as a damn good winning record it stayed with the public. GM cashed in on it. Smart.
An as for IROC. The same thing, especially when they got to sponsor the Pace Car for that race series with a Camaro, as well as Daytona. There have also been other cars to sponsor that series as well but were not counting them right now. Like the El Camino and the Beretta.
But, no matter where it sits the Z28 will always be seen as special and now its got a good potential to restle with Fords Shelby edition mustang and keep the Vette out of it so they can concentrate that car on it's targets overseas.

I wish it would be more subtle and classy. Basically the route that Ford went with on the GT500 vs the GT (the differences are there and clear, but isnt loud and unforgiving the the masses).
Agreed. something alittle more subtle would look good. But i'm not complaining

but guys lets be real here for a second hm is B rupt right now. they do not have money to spend on developing another sports car, also gm's SS and V is workers(cannot remember the name sorry) are gone

this might just be some after market parts that gm is producing for the camaro like bumber fasica hood
True. Gm's performance division is gone for now. But that only included the SS and V models. Nothing says the Z28 was included.

People need to stop focusing on the LS7. That engine is quickly on its way out.

Current automotive problems have frozen this program.
Motor Trend had seen this picture in advance (its probably from a few years back!), and came up with their rendering.
The new Bumblebee Camaro carries this look, as the Z28 was to be ready for later this year (and coincide with Transformers 2).
If things improve at GM, this car may yet still see the light of day.

Oh, and I want that book!

honestly do you think people will buy this? it's just not convinient to make a stripper package, and Scott has already said it would be more cost effective to have a stripper package, due to low demand.

yup, that's what they need to focus on right now

I really think the best thing to do is to wait to introduce a high performance gen V engine for the Z28 or possibly keep it for the SS.

safety standards wouldn't allow for t-tops either way.

Now my question for all of you is.

why does it have to be a Z28?
There are other "special" Camaros besides the Z28. Don't be surprised if we see another special edition Camaro other than a Z28 in the future.

What GM could have done is start out with the Z28 and get as many enthusiasts to order and buy one.. Many enthusiasts won't buy one after buying an SS so some sales lost.. Dodge did that with the SRT8 the first year, then later released the RT if I'm not mistaken.
