ZL1/SS clutch swap

I've been thinking about swapping the clutch in my SS with one out of ZL1. Just thought i'd share some info. The ZL1 pressure plate and friction disc are a direct swap. GM part #24268307. The cool part is, they're $320 on GMpartsdirect.com right now. That's $13 cheaper than the SS clutch.

Why are you doing this. Have you had clutch problems.

I wonder why GM didn’t just conmonize to the ZL1 clutch then. Maybe more rotational weight and higher pedal force? Seems like a good option when the time comes. Thanks for this info!

No issues yet. It has quite a few passes at the drag strip on it though so just exploring my options for when that time inevitably comes.

I'd look at the ZR1 clutch. I know the Z06 and Camaro SS clutches are identical in appearance. When I put an LT4 in my SS, I used a Z06 clutch because the ZL1 wasn't out at the time.

The ZR1 clutch is supposed to have 10% more holding force than the Z06, and I'm betting the ZR1 clutch will fit in our Camaros just like the Z06 clutch does.

Got ya. Yeah seems like a great upgrade option for when the time comes.
