Parking brake adjustment

I have read several threads that say you can adjust the parking brake by engaging it while backing up. This is not correct, at least on my 2012 SS w/ Brembo's.

The parking brake is a small drum brake similar to the previous 4th gen F-body's located on the backside of the rear rotors and is adjusted with a small star wheel after the rotors and calipers are removed.

'Back in the day' drum brakes had a ratcheting assembly that would hit the star wheel and lengthen the spacer screws that were then on the bottom of the shoes to tighten up the adjustment. There is no such mechanism on our rear parking brake. It is manual adjustment only. (I had to adjust mine when installing the R1 Concepts rotors today).

To make the adjustment tighter you turn the notches of the star toward the top of the assembly (See 8 in figure), to loosen, rotate it down. If it's too tight you will not be able to get the rotor back on so back it off a few notches at a time just until the rotor will go back on and not drag.

Hope this helps a bit.

I'm not real familiar with these cars but maybe check for the parking brake hardware kit?
