OP is from Florida, assuming he bought there, he's good to go with paying sales tax on price of vehicle after trade-in. But you're right, doesn't work that way everywhere.

I just picked up my new Camaro yesterday. I wouldn't call this a trick or trap (because a lot of owners willingly and gladly purchase these) but when it came time to complete the paperwork and sign the deal, some what I would call, "Dealer Products" were offered at additional costs. I think all dealers offer something like this; mechanical breakdown protection (extended warranty type thing), wheel & tire program (pays for replacing damaged tires & wheels), paint & interior protectant, and anti theft protection (pays extra $ if the vehicle is stolen and not recovered). It ranged from $495 to almost $3900 for the whole package. I knew about the paint and interior protectant, but not the other stuff. For me, it would have been better to have known about these and had some time to think over purchasing these products rather than having to make the decision right then, when my new Camaro was setting right outside the window ready to go and the finance guy is acting like I'd be crazy NOT to spend more money to protect my beautiful, expensive new car with his insurance products. I was a little put off and felt some pressure to add these on. Maybe I should have done more homework, but I wasn't expecting this. You might want to find out what products will be offered if you haven't already so you'll be ready when the time comes.

I don't understand. Did you order your car before settling on the price?

Yes.
The pricing wasn't avalaible in Nov when the orders came open. Most dealers were selling at MSRPplus an additional premium. The dealership I went with wrote a receipt for.my downpayment stating they would sell me one of their 5 allocated 2011 camaro convertibles built to my specifications at $xx (actual number over invoice is in writing, just don't want to sell him out completely) over invoice pricing.

Its the best I could get at the time until the pricing came out. He has since.given me a rough estimate of.$43k complete, out the door (tax title tag included) for 2SS vert, manual w RS package...but that's just an estimate.

I've been extremely happy w this dealer, especially compared to the.other morons I was dealing with prior. But still, being my first new car/order I've ever placed, I just want to make sure im.not missing.anything.

Thanks!

I see now.

If I may offer some advice, use invoice and negotiate from there, up or down. I hope this helps

I guess putting a down payment on a car that i'm not sure of the price seems kind of risky. But as long as you trust your dealership i guess it should be okay. I just wanted to know exactly what the price would be and get the haggling out of the way before delivery. I have gotten a printed signed sales agreement before I would give a deposit.

I emailed GM supplier discount on wed and they wrote me back that the 2011 convertibles are NOT eligible. I am pay MSRP for my vert.

Well, I got some news from my dealer today. My final sales price, tax, title, tag-everything; out the door is $44,024 for a 2SS/RS LS3. I managed about $850 under MSRP, which was just about entirely made back up in "advertising fees" and some other rediculous scam... but im happy, my buddy paid $42 for his coupe, auto/rs/sunroof 2 yrs ago...

On another note, he did tell me my car (which is @ 4150 currently) has a delivery date of Feb 28... Im not holding my breath, and even he was hesitant to tell me that, but its a good sign! With that bit of info, I began epoxy painting the nursery... I mean garage, today in preparation of its arrival!
