25 laps in EITHER of these cars is going to be embarrassing for both cars by the end.

Well, perhaps not embarrassing, but certainly unimpressive.

Despite all the marketing they've both attempted, neither is a 'true' track car. Sure they can be taken out and thrashed around a few laps here and there, and certainly have the ability to post great times, but it's not likely they'll be able to do it for an extended period of time.

Oh great now if/when the Shelby beats it around a road course its not gonna count cause it wasnt 25 laps. I'll remember that if the ZL1 beats the Shelby. Doesnt matter it was only one lap and if they would have raced for 25 the ZL1's brakes would have failed before the Shelby's therefore the Shelby is the real winner in the real world...

Ive officially heard it all...

Are you serious?
Chevy won 7 times in the last 10 races and finished twice second... when was Ford's last win? 196...?

True. I can promise you in 25 laps the BOSS would beat both of them...

Not a doubt in my mind.

I would like to see a graph showing lap times over those 25 (or 5) laps just to see how quickly either car really starts losing time.

You missed the whole point, but that shouldn't surprise anyone. I'm talking about a race run at more than 1/4 mile at a time. I said the Shelby is faster, but for how long ? In reality there is no way of knowing which one would win after 25 laps, and bench racing wouldn't give you an honest answer.

It's all bench racing for now, but I predict the excuses for when the GT500 beats the ZL1 to be:

1. The Camaro still looks better
2. (if applicable) The cars weren't run on the same day, with the same drive, on the same tide schedule, when the same planets were in alignment, etc.
3. Well that's on one (fill in the blank) track, but Ford still hasn't released numbers for the Nurburgring.
4. The 2013 ZL1 isn't out yet.
5. The ZL1 is still easier to drive for the average driver.
6. The ZL1 is still cheaper (even though MSRP is going up $1995 for 2013).
7. Just wait until the Camaro comes out on the Alpha platform.

I can't think of any more right now, but I'm sure I'm missing something.

The shelby only won because it was driven by pros. Bc the ZL1 is so much easier to drive it will be the faster car with the owners.

Oh sorry, almost forgot that one lol.

Come on people, we're all here for the debate, but lets concede when it's called for.

Some day, Chevy will undoubtably be on top again in some way, and so is the circle of life.

@ All~
in my last 2 track days, i havent cross the shadows of any kind of mustang nor camaro on the circuit! 5 vipers, 25 porshes GT2, GT3, 5 BM3,4,5,6 AMG63, lambo, and the regular ricers.

I wonder who is going to put its baby ZL1 or GT500 on the track...? It took me 2 years to put my babe on the circuit for a growling 2 hours

Furthermore, i didn't say anyone only cares about 1/4 mile, the post i responded to did. I simply stated that the same heavy bias toward 1/4 mile times in the mustang community is just as prevalent in the camaro community, do you disagree? Why aren't there any lap time lists on this forum? Is it because all anyone here cares about is 1/4 mile times or because the idea of comparing lap times from various tracks with various drivers on different days is illogical? Do you see my point now? I also commented on the FACT that the vast majority of both the camaro and mustang community care more (not only) about straight line performance than most other performance car communities and these cars are not the popular choice among track junkies, at least where i have run. Now, if you could please point out where I said Ford doesn't care about handling and track performance, by all means I'll answer your question. Since i never said anything of the sort and instead commented on the irrationality of suggesting the mustang community only cares about 1/4 mile and the camaro community is different, we'll just move along shall we? And to answer your question, yes i track my car roughly every other weekend.
There you go putting words in my mouth. I never said track time lists are "irrelevant". I answered your question as to why enthusiast sites don't compile lists. I will agree that track times posted by yeahoos like us are irrelevant....not enough data to do apples to apples comparisons.

Track times posted by professionals that are well documented are pertinent in determining a car's performance and potential. It's another data point for determining whether a particular car is right for you.

The statements about Ford's interest in track performance were directed at those maintaining ET//hp is the sole measre of performance for these cars.

Not to be a dick, as you came across in your opening sentence, but did you read either of our posts before quoting them? They are very clearly not referencing anything remotely drag strip oriented.

We both stated, unbiasedly I might add, that after a substantial time on track neither the GT500 NOR the ZL1 will be posting times anywhere in the vicinity of their first couple, glory lap or not.

It's frustrating enough posting in this mega-thread when there are four or five different conversations at one time, but add in posts like the one I've quoted and it turns into a war of words.

In your defense I do agree that we can't really know which car will fade faster, but as the SRT guy and I have stated, we do know they'll fade well below the performance levels of a Boss or 1LE.
