Whats the best plug and play tuner device for a stock 2013 Camaro Lt to increase HP?
Just looking to get some sort device that will help me push a little bit more power out of my v6 Camaro, I don't know anything about this kinda stuff so any suggestions would help.

There aren't any for the v6.... only for the v8... You'd need to take that v6 to a shop to get tuned with hptuners or efilive tuning software...

Plus I believe with the 2013 v6 you won't get much from a tune due to the configuration of the heads and exhaust manifolds. They are not like the previous year v6's that had 3 primary tubes coming off the heads on each side into the collector, they have one tube now on each side for your model year, making it not worth tuning. So I've heard..

Even with a completely stock V6 there are some gains to be made: the engine is tuned from the factory for 87 octane so if using 91 or higher you can add a few degrees to the spark tables; the throttle response sucks and can be improved through the driver demand tables; the throttle won't go full open until above 4000 RPM but this can be brought down to closer to 3000; power enrichment can be brought on much quicker; if an auto you have a whole lot of things to play with; etc. Believe a tune is typically good for (or at least advertised as) ~20 HP/torque.
One company (EFI?) makes an AutoCal unit which can be uploaded with a tune, sent to you, then downloaded to the car via the OBDII port. If you find someone with HP Tuners (and an MPVI) you'd have to pay them for credits (one to access the engine, one for the trans if auto, one for the fuel pump control module if changing the pump) which allows the MPVI to write to the ECU/TCM/FPCM. Or you could buy your own MPVI and credits (and laptop) and do your own tuning ![]()

Trifecta tuning does a tune for the v6 camaro. I've had it for 2 years. Better response and shifting points. I don't have dyno numbers proving their tune, but my last dyno run was 265 at the rear wheel. Stock is rated 323 at the crank, and the drive train typically uses 75-100. So theoretically, trifecta made a difference for me.

Can you do the trifecta tune yourself?

Yeah. It's real easy, did it in my garage. They give you a tune and the computer program and cord to plug into the car. Takes about 20 minutes.
You can leave it at that, or keep the laptop plugged in and run a few logs while the program collects info. You can then email them the file and they fine tune it. |
