A ZL1 may be more unique due to limited production but is really no more special. Yes, it is a higher end model which carries a higher price. Great car? Yes it is. Special? Not really. It depreciates just like every other car. These are all still Camaros after all.

The ZL1 is a very unique Camaro. I don't see any ZL1 Camaros in my area. I think I have the only one around. I always get a positive comment or a thumbs up when I take mine out. The new Gen 6 cars are nice, but they are smaller inside and there will be a lot of them around soon enough. I bought ZL1 last year, it was a very low mileage, one owner car. Compared to a new Gen 6 SS in terms of price, I feel I bought a fantastic bargain!

ZL1 5th gen will remain unique in its own way. It appeals to those who like a big imposing car. Its engine and dual exhaust has its own distinct sound that we wont find in the new generation. The six gen is I am sure is improved on many levels but it looks smaller and getting a more racer like appearance. The only stand out in the 6 gen line up I believe is the 2017 1LE. looks great and is very close in performance compared to the old zl1. the only unknown is the top speed. Here in canada the 6 gen ss is now more expensive then the zl1.

It's remarkable that the 6Gen with it's lesser powered motor is just about staying equal in performance with the LT1.

If ya get the 6Gen than you get newer technology which results in the almost equal performance and fuel milage than the now outdated ZL1 but you also have a higher price and all the depreciation to deal with.

For the higher costs of buying a loaded out 2SS and the depreciation involved I'm pretty sure you can get a lot of bang for your buck with the ZL1 even if ya figure in the lesser fuel mileage of the supercharged engine.

What are the average fuel mileage numbers for the 2SS vs the ZL1 anyway?

Mileage on the 5th gen ZL1 is rated at 12/18 for the auto and 14/20 for the manual. However I have a 2013 auto and the average mpg for me with mostly city driving is 15mpg over a 20,000 mile time period, and highway at 75mph is 20 mpg checked on several long drives. I believe the gen 6 SS gets 28-30 mpg highway with the LT1 so its def better mpg. And that 15mpg I get on the ZL1 auto isn't grandma driving, I run it as hard as I can to enjoy (but safely) around town and short freeway trips.

5th. gen ZL1 12.1 sec @ 117.4
'16 SS 12.4 sec @ 114.6
Winner: 5th. gen ZL1

0-60 MPH
ZL1 3.8
'16 SS 4.0 sec
Winner: 5th. gen ZL!

Brak. 60-0
ZL1 108 ft.
'16 SS 104 ft.
Winner: 6th. gen SS

Lat. accel.
Zl1 1.02 g
'16 SS 1.00 g
Winner: Zl1

Fig. eight
ZL1 23.9 sec. @ 0.83 g
'16 SS 24.1 sec. @ 0.85 g
Winner: Zl1

Very interesting, the winner: is the 5th. gen ZL1 (except for the braking distance), but it looks like a very close battle. Both are great cars.

It would be great to see the 6th. gen SS VS the 5th. gen ZL1 lap times at the same track.

There is no reason it SHOULDN'T win. It is a ZL1 and we are comparing an SS to it. Yes the NEW SS is closer to the performance of a ZL1 than it was in the 5th generation, but it is still a ZL1 and the performance of an SS isn't going to match it that quickly.

The 6th generation stuff looks to be quite impressive, but the only 6th generation Camaro that will beat the ZL1's performance is the new ZL1 (and maybe Z28).

I get around the 14/20 in my M6 but I find it hard to believe the new SS gets 28-30 on the highway

GM rates the 2016 SS 8-spd auto at 17/28...from my experience those numbers usually aren't inflated. The manual SS is actually rated less at 15/25. At least this is what I found/read on the net...maybe you have seen otherwise.

For me I have no prob spending the extra gas money to drive a ZL1, but the LT1 cars do get pretty good mpg for a V8
