Stafford may actually never be the highest 'paid' player in the NFL, as the contract doesn't start till 2018 and someone will surely pass him next year, he's making 16.7 million this year.

I remember many years ago, Tom Tupa was listed as the Jets backup QB and Rick Mirer was their emergency QB. First game of the year, Testaverde gets hurt and they had to have Tupa play QB since league rules stated if the "emergency QB" plays before the 4th quarter your previous QB's couldn't play. So Tupa had to play due to if Mirer had come in they wouldn't have been able to have Tupa punt either.
