Just wanted to confirm, to any new ZL1 owners as we recently had our first 2014 ZL1 arrive, they are still shipped with spring spacers installed, and the valance panels were packaged in the trunk along with the floor mats. A few pictures, along with the notice to remove the spacers, and the warning tag advising against the use of an automatic car wash, as wheel damage can occur. Valance panel package... This label is placed on the drivers window, to remind the carrier of low ground clearance, and to remind the PDI tech to remove the spring spacers. This tag should be placed on the shifter on delivery of any ZL1 and 1LE...

Dealers should inform buyers about initial speeds.
Great information, to bad the dealers don't inform the buyers of the limited speed and rpm's; or could it be THEY (the salesmen) are uniformed. When I test drove mine on I-95 he told me it was okay to nail it, I did up to 120. Hope I haven't FUBAR'd the engine. I was going to take it to Homestead for a track day on the 28th, now that will be unfortunately placed on hold. As for the spring spacers I only have one in my trunk. Go figure.

Gunny,
I wouldn't worry about it. I exceeded the 80 mph mark several times always unintentional with no ill effect. I would use the track day to actually break the car in. |

Many thanks to the OP for this thread. I wondered why the front end of my 2014 seemed so high, and why I had to adjust the headlights immediately after buying a new car. The dealer I bought from (one of the largest dealers in Houston) failed to remove the spacers, but at least they did install the valances. I had actually seen the spacers when washing the car a few days ago, but figured they must have been there for a reason or they wouldn't be there.
Thanks again

My dealer threw the spacers and the valance pieces away. I just contacted them to get them for me and they want me to pay for them. I said they were suppose to come with the car wtf. I'm waiting for a response.

Sadly I read this after I purchased my ZL1 and I've already lost one of the winglets (damn parking curbs) and my dealer hasn't called me back on the spring spacers yet.
How much are you guys paying for the winglets because my dealer quoted me $130 for the pair? |

Thanks for posting those pics. The dealers tell us they want NOT a "very satisfied" BUT they want a "completely satisfied" survey. HA!! I posted the following link in my survey and gave the service department low marks because either they were inept or NEVER put the car on a rack for inspection. Maybe they couldn't read English. My valances were installed but the BRIGHT YELLOW spacers were still on the car. One of the sales managers drove the car to an auto show before I bought it but never noticed how poor it drove. I drove the car off the showroom floor after I signed the papers and noticed right away that the car "bottomed" out at every little crack in the road. DUH!! Dealers need to be held accountable. I teach music and I can do better than they do!!
http://www.***********.com/pdi-process.php WHY DIDN'T THEY LET ME POST THE ENTIRE LINK?? It's zl1 registry link without the spaces.

Dealer is REQUIRED to remove spacers and install valance kit. If they tossed valance kit they are REQUIRED to purchase and install without charge. Your dealer, like mine, tossed the valance kit. Refer them to the PDI for the ZL1. If they refuse to do so contact the GM Dealer Rep for that dealer. I found out about seven months after I had my car that they were not installed. They will try to tell you they are an option and all that BS but the bottom line is they didn't read the PDI for this car!!!

I'd like to Thank Everyone on this forum. It has been a huge help to me. I studied all that was here and when I went in to pick up my new ZL1 the next morning, I was fully armed to the teeth with knowledge. I think they were shocked because even they didn't know some of this info. I had them change out all four tires because the rubber had the cold cracks in them and they had to remove the shock spacers as mentioned here too. I bet they would have let the tires go out like that if I never noticed them. I traded in my 2010 SS coupe for the new convertible and I'm not regretting it at all.

Thanks for the info on spacers, I still have to buy 1 @ 30.00 to get the other! They may come in handy while on the road.I have a '04-ZO6 that sets very low also but has RUN FLAT TIRES ( no problems as of yet)
