If it smells, it is excessively slipping, and is hot.

Every time you start moving the car from a stop, you have to slip the clutch to get it moving smoothly, otherwise it is either "in" or "out" of gear. How much slipping is determined by both feet.

Use less right foot and more left foot.

Mine seemed to create a smell when it was new. All good now.

Mine smelled a lot for a while and I wasn't slipping it very often and if I did it wasn't for long. Like has been said the smell will occur less with time.

Maybe a little too slow letting up on the clutch pedal?

I get that on hills. I have driven straight drives all my life. 3 of my current 6 cars are manual shifts. But for some reason I get the smell more than I like. However, I am convinced that nothing is wrong.

Smell only happened when new only. The clutch needs to be bedded in like brakes. There is also a large vent at the bottom of the bell housing.

On the separate clutch reservoir, this seems a must from my experience. My clutch fluid looks like Dr Pepper. A lot of drain/fills with DOT4 and it is lighter in color and the clutch seems to work better. I think the top of the dedicated reservoir is correct - the clutch requires DOT4. It looks like the DOT3 gets cooked, hence the discoloration.

I have almost 9000 miles on my car and I'm still smelling the burnt clutch smell when I slip the clutch a little extra trying to get into the garage. I asked the service department at my dealer, but they didn't seem to know about the problem. I'm taking the car in next week for them to take a closer look. Anyone have any updates on this?

I have driven sticks most of my adult life. including my 95 z28. I have 25000 miles on my 2011 SS. In stop and go traffic the clutch smell is ridiculous. Same issue with my 2010 SS, When I had it.

Hi RoaringV8,

I'm sorry to hear this! Please let us know what the dealership has to say. We would be happy to assist further if necessary.

I was changing my oil yesterday and seen some "residue" on the right side of the tranny where the clutch vents..it was on the two stainless tubes that run along the side of the transmission..

Im not hard on the clutch at all....
