GPI SS1 VVT Time Lapse Cam Install
Recently made a trip down to Gwatney Performance Innovation to have a cam installed on my Camaro. Put together a time lapse video/vid of the entire process along with the dyno. This install was done in 1 day and the dyno the next morning. Thought this might interest some of you contemplating this upgrade.

Do you mind sharing your setup and how much it costed you with everything + labor. I hear amazing things from gpi's VVT cams. Im seriously considering this cam on my car soon.

Agreed, would like the info on cost and stuff if that doesn't bother you. Considering this for a winter project while the car is parked.

I just had GPI do a forged and stroked LSA for mine.. You'll love the SS1. I had it and it was awesome...

I don't think it's a big secret, but everyones setup is slightly different. IF you already have headers, CAI, etc. AND do not have to install a stall converter, you are looking in the range of $4000-4400. This would cover parts, install, dyno tune, oil, gaskets, fluids, out the door for a basic VVT SS1 cam. Their website has the kits and prices and well as prices on rod mod intakes, etc. Hope this helps.

Was across the bay from you. James was supposed to introduce us, but never seemed to be there at the same time. You followed me on the dyno, but I was heading back north by then.

I told Aaron to call me early so I could come by and watch the startup but, they were so busy, slipped past them. I got there around 12:15 and Ryan was outside the Dyno bay running my car.. Would have like to meet... Two RJTs at the same time ;o)...
Hopefully next time you come down... -Don

I thought the front of the car had to come off. Glad to see it didn't! Seriously, I didn't think there was physically enough room for R&R.

It doesn’t. You will need to carefully maneuver the A/C condenser up & out of the way to get the camshaft in/out.

If you're trying a hand held device, that may be the problem. Try a PC?? It's also on youtube.
Final numbers were 452 rwhp/420 trq. NO problems with idle or surge, but still has a very nice lope/sound. |

Didn't do a baseline as so many stock L99's baseline around 330 rwhp (someone correct me if I'm wrong), so not sure what the break down for each bolt on is, but with ported TB, LT headers/high flows, CAI, SS1 cam, and rod mod intake, netted me roughly 122 rwhp.
Could've milled the heads and gotten another 10-20. Very happy about the numbers with a "safe" build for touring. Still getting roughly 23 mpg vs 24 pre cam. FYI It was tuned and dyno'd with post hi-flo cut outs open. |
