Polished wheel problem

Problem with factor polished 5 spoke?

My wheels are getting small bubbles in the finish that break off leaving a black mark.

is anyone else's having this problem?

Did you use a metal polish? The Camaro polished wheels are clear coated and should be treated like the paint on the car.

Here is a possibility. If road sand or gravel produces small picks in the wheel clear coat, and you drive the car in wet, salty conditions, corrosion will start. This corrosion will continue, eventually swelling, lifting, and then splitting the clear coat. Underneath the blister will be a corroded area, leaving the dark spot.

I use the same product on my wheels as on my paint, Zainos finishing spray.

I do clean the wheels with invisible glass cleaner.

This car is kept in a heated garage never driven in snow or salt and very little rain.

Post close-ups of the issue if possible.

I would stop using the glass cleaner. No telling what chemicals are in there that are potential nasties for a clearcoat.

Grab a variety of soft bristle brushes and give them a nice bath when you wash the car with the normal car car wash soap product.

I don't know how you could treat them any better, it shouldn't be anything you are doing. I haven't had this issue on my polished wheels and it is an everyday driver, but I do have a set of dedicated winter wheels.

like you i thought we had polished wheels too. if you dont know... our wheels are not really polished wheels ..i had a little curb rash and went to have it repaired i was told that our wheels have a finish similar to power coat chrome and then are cleared to make them look like they are polished..i used a company called wheel-tek for this repair..they do really good work and looks like a new wheel

I didn't know they weren't really polished. I thought since I paid a fortune for them and they are called out as polished aluminum on the window sticker that they were in fact polished aluminum. That kind of sucks.

They are polished aluminum but like others have said, they have a layer of clear on top for additional protection.

All you need is different grades of sandpaper, aluminum/mag polish, a can of automotive clear and a couple of hours.

Thanks for the tip, I think I'm going to replace them with chrome wheels.
