Looking for suggestions on headers
Hello All,
Looking for some input on headers for my 68, it has a 396 in it and I think I have headman headers in her now, I put this car together about 31 years ago so the choices of after market stuff was not as plentiful as today. my problem is the set I have now I had to cave in / dent one of the tubes near the starter and one near the steering box to make room for fit. I am looking to up grade and wondering what everyone else has had good luck with as far as fit and performance. thanks in advance for any input. |

Try American racing headers, pretty sure they make them... If they do, they will fit perfectly.

Have you seen the video where they purposefully dent the heck out of a set of headers and it made more power?

That video is hilarious! I've got one little dent on either side. I'm running a 454 bored .030" over with 781 Oval Port heads. My headers are not new, and they are painted with black high temp paint. Not sure if they are Hooker or Hedman, most likely they are proprietary Jegs Long Tubes. I'd have to see them all side by side... although my collector is 3" so if the others are 3-1/2" or 4" I really don't know.
I think many people feel the Hooker Competitions are probably the best at popular prices, but I'm sure you can get some custom headers that might be better and more expensive. On second thought... after watching that video its hard to imagine any one long tube header setup having a significant advantage LOL. Mike |
