I think the opinion on this will be divided among owners that are interested in pure performance vs those that like to spend money on cosmetic upgrades. Lots of guys spend lots of cash on wheels, carbon accents, painted engine covers, etc. If you’re into that kind of thing, the extra money here probably isn’t a factor.

Being a performance guy myself, I’d probably only be a buyer if it shows an advantage over the competition. Lower IATs, more potential on modified engines, etc.
This is definitely where I'm sitting, and why I'm still following this thread. If it is legitimately worth the extra cash, I'm in on it. I love their products, and I prefer the more enclosed look.

For the OP, did you notice any increased blower whine with this CAI like others are reporting with the Rotofab?

I got mine ordered.. I wanted this to match all my other carbon Fiber.. otherwise it been rotofab.. honestly I don't think it makes the car 1 bit faster. It may make the Dyno numbers look better..

I remember getting my feelings hurt bad with my 4th gen 1996 Z28..

I did the LGmotorsports package.. Borla Exhaust, Under drive pulleys, 160 Thermostat, Hypertec power programmer, the LG or BBk ported TB w that bolt on piece between the oval TB and Lastly Before there where CAI and Rotofab.. You cut your original airbox, added a high flow filter, then it came with some parts to make the ram air effect..

It was said to pick up 75 rwhp. So here I have 1200.00 invested.. and I see a 96 vette pull up next to me on the highway.. I revved my motor and we took off... he left me in the dust my feelings were so hurt..

I pulled the motor later that week to have 388 built with a Vortec T-trim with LT4 intake and Heads ported by Lingenfelter.

I never trusted little bolt ons again..

I'm doing this for the intake for the carshows.. and the pulleys and headers for racing!

383 afr heads 11.5@118 150 dry kit 10.8@131 still not fast enough. Tore back down off set ground crank to 392 inches went solid roller ported the holy hell out of the afr 190 heads 13.5 compression then 10.0@136 all motor and still had the 150 dry kit for street racing and finally was happy. lol went through 13 4l60e trans during that time but learned how too fix myself and made a career out of it. Now can build one to take 1000 hp with todays technology. The amazing thing is shooting for 10.90s with my zl1 this weekend on stock tires and took me over 20k to get there with the 1994 z28. I was thinking lol but really its not funny I blew a ton of money on that car and why I wont sell it....... speed a hobby or a drug either way it cost us a bunch of money... now Ill laugh....lol

That's cool I remember when that LT1 came out ahead of its time..lol a good port job lingenfelter or craing gallant on those heads don't even flow what a stock head today flows.. Infact my setup w came and t trim probably doesn't make what my zl1 makes today stock lol.

I love my old catfish!

I can hear it now...... albeit subtle in my opinion.... from inside the car, with the windows up.

and for 750 bucks Ill spend that money on an ati balancer and pulley that will actually give me more power and when get a cai get a rotofab or gm performance one as the rotofab will make the same power + or - a few ponies for a whole lot less money. Some of us spend bucks on looks and some on going fast as possible.
The ECU is going to only allow so much calculated torque — you’re right about that. What I think maybe you’re overlooking is the fact that an intake usually changes how the MAF reads airflow. The dyno runs I’ve seen show them leaning out vs stock. This tells me that it’s flowing more air than the MAF is seeing. If this is the case, the ECU doesn’t know it’s making more power. Or even if it’s really not flowing more air, then the ECU probably thinks it’s not making enough torque and lets the throttle open more. This is probably why an intake DOES add power.

If you look at the torque coefficient tables, you’ll see why this makes sense. It’s calculating torque based on airmass, ignition timing, cam angle, etc. Change that airmass value, and the torque calculation is now skewed. In this case, it’s goung to read lower than reality. At least that’s how I see it based on how these torque based control systems work.

Thanks for the question. It takes less than 5 minutes to disassemble the the tube and the air box, they are connected by a compression seal. There are 6 cap screws that will need to be removed to access the filter from the tube. Thanks again.
