Camaro SS 1LE vs Mustang GT

Recently went to the strip with a buddy from works GT. I’ve got a few boltons and he had an exhaust with e85 tune.. Track was a little cold so hard to launch good, the 1LE’s are hard as it is. But ran mid 12’s trapping at 114-115. I think it could be in the low 12’s with a good 60’.. Now I gotta get this thing to a road course!

Exactly! Mid 12's is a broad range! I wanna see that 60' too - always like to see what people are pulling off on pure street tires.

Sure thing, I’ll post it up when I get home. I think I saved a couple slips in the Camaro. I need to go back when the track is warmer. I know there’s a 12.4 in there with a trap speed at 114.. Just hard to launch the 1le, especially when it’s cold

With just bolt ons, you guys think slicks would still be to strong for the 1LE stock rear end?

It really depends on how you treat it. Plenty of guys have run SS M6 cars down into the 10s - usually they break axles before diffs. Preloading the driveline with the e-brake goes a long long way to preventing breakage and extending the service life of the axles and differential. It's something I think any M6 drag racer should be incorporating into their launch procedure.

I was actually thinking about trying that but never have.. The Camaro ebrake is a little week.. or maybe mine could just use being tightened a bit

You don't need a lot of it, just enough to make sure there is a load on everything before you leave.

I roll into pre-stage, stop with the regular brake, the grab the e-brake lightly. Then a creep it forward with the clutch lightly engaging till it lights the full-stage bulb. Then I increase the tension on the e-brake, bring up the revs to launch rpm, and keep the clutch dragging just a bit. When I leave I release the brake just as/after I'm getting the clutch out.

This isn't a real good launch, and it's just street tires, but you get the idea on how the process works.
