whats the status of GM these days
Well its been about 10 years since i've owned a GM product (an SS), and all I been hearing recently is about bankruptcy this and delphia that. Is GM just having trouble on the business side, or are there cars really downhill these days?? I'm just wondering if GM can put this car out with some quality. Obviously they got the styling part of things down and with the vettes they got the engines down. Quality is the question to me...

You better believe they can deliver it with quality. Even the very biased auto magazines are starting to take note. Gms initial quality has been on a steady rise for years now. Hope its not to little to late.

Since you asked and made me read this crusty old post: I think we have beat to death the point that Oshawa is one of the highest quality plants. So that should be clear. And people have chimed in that GM quality is at a new level recently (a high one). I guess you could look at JD Power reports and the like for some confirmation. Other than that, not sure what else to say.

GM has come a VERY long way since 2006. Financial troubles aside, GM currently has one of the best lineups in the industry. Cars like the CTS, Malibu, Lambda crossovers, GMT-900 trucks, and upcoming vehicles like the Camaro, LaCrosse, SRX, Equinox, Terrain, 9-4x, Volt, and Cruze are great examples of that.
Quality wise, take a peek at JD Power and Associates' Initial Quality Survey.

The cars are great. There's no reason to worry about quality.
The business is disputed. On one side, you've got critics saying that the product is good but the consumer base is bad. On another side, you've got critics saying that GM has invested too much in performance and quality, all the while failing to invest in fuel economy, which is the primary motivator these days. Yet another side says that GM is a victim of the market, which is not very protectionist in the US. Customers who drove crappy American cars a generation ago are still complaining about the products they drove, and that isn't helping. Basically, it is hard to pin GM's predicament on one singular problem. GM has a lot of politicking to do to get in the favor of the US government and its former buyers. GM also has a lot of work to do to stay ahead of expectations because failure to do so will give critics the chance to point out that last year's model was better, reinforcing former drivers who said that Japan and Germany do a better job of making cars. Until Americans really believe the facts about GM's products, those products won't sell. GM really does make some of the best cars in the world.

Hey, here's a good example of how far we've come...
The interior of my '98 GMC Sonoma... The interior of the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox...
