Stay or Go - 1999 Camaro Z28
I bought my 2011 Camaro 2SS last fall and put my 1999 Camaro Z28 in storage for the winter. I was hoping to keep both but the storage, insurance, maintenance, etc., looks like it will be a lot more than I thought and my garage and driveway is filled with my daily driver, my 2011, and kid's car. Storage is running about $125 a month inside. I can carry no-fault only which will reduce the insurance and if it breaks, I can usually fix most things myself and since it's really even more of a toy than my 2011, if something does break, it's not that I have to fix it right away.
It's obviously paid for, it's in immaculate condition, and pretty much stock and un-butchered like many 4th Gens, but it's high miles and frankly nothing special. I think KBB has it valued at around $5k so if I sell it it's not going to be a lot of money coming back. My concern is if I sell it, will I regret it later on, especially during the few days in the summer when I cruise and get a boat load of compliments because it's a great looking car as you can see from the photo. Any suggestions? Anyone else have this dilemma?

I'd hold onto it. Have you looked into Collector or Classic car insurance?

Clean examples are almost all gone, I'd say figure out a way to keep if you can! All cars go through the high/low/high cycle. You bought it so even though it may not be collectible, it means something to you and they are fun cars to drive and/or mod (fix up with the kid?).
If it makes you dislike the car paying insurance and storage selling may be the right choice for you. It's your call to make. |

Normally I'd say keep it, but since your paying $125/m for storage..sell it.
Sure I miss my old 4-gen's, heck I just found out my old WS6 got totalled, but the more seat time you get in the 5th the easier it will be

I had one identical to that. Ditch it man. They're too junky, unreliable and a massive bitch to work on

collector car / show car insurance runs me about $500 per year on my 10 SS. that is a nice car.

If I were you, I'd sit down and write down reasons to sell it, and reasons to keep it. If the reasons to sell it outweigh the reasons to keep it... Then I think you have you adult decision made. It just comes down to if you can actually let it go.

^ what this guy said.
List out the pros and cons. 125 a month for storage, plus insurance and tags, maintenance adds up. I still miss my 4th gen ta. You get emotionally attached to things, but that is life. I've decided not to spend all my money just trying to hold onto a worldly possession. That money could go into savings to pay house off, rainy day fund, family vacations or just retirement so that you won't have to work as much when you get older. |

It's a tough situation, for me space is always the issue not so much the cost of the vehicle. I like cars for different reasons, on the outset it makes little sense. Case in point, I wanted a nice third gen Formula 350 or Trans Am GTA since the late 90s, bought one last year. It was between that and a 6th gen Camaro SS. I only have one spot for either but not both but I found a GTA that was what I wanted. Ended up buying it, a big part of me still wants a 6th gen for the fact it's a newer car. If you sell it and you really do regret it, you'll buy another. Far 4th gens, sure they are getting tougher to find. But they're still out there, my GTA took a long time to find and was in Iowa. But it was out there, they just won't fall in your lap, and when the opportunity presents it self you got to go for it.

Thanks for the comments. Well I finally had to make a decision:
https://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/c...576851211.html The storage costs, space issues and other activities did it for me. Plus I hate seeing machines just go bad from lack of use. If the right buyer comes along and I feel they'll really appreciate it, I'll let it go for a lot cheaper. It was a bit tougher decision because I had to put my buddy down last month and we used to hang out in this car all the time. SOLD. Sold it in less than 24 hours of posting for asking price. I was looking for an excuse to back out and I think the guy saw the look on my face and didn’t even try to haggle. I’m telling y’all - an unmolested, good condition 4th gen is hard to find nowadays.
