Dixon Racing Z/28 Project Car
Figured I should start my own thread for the build and track days. I bought the car in 2016 for $48,000 with 4200mi.
So far what's done to it: Moreno Camber plates w/ track alignment Elite Catch can Eagle F1 Super Car tires 305's all around APR GTC-500 wing (Probably add a splitter extension soon) Gloc Pads with Goodridge stainless steel lines Motul brake fluid So right now there isn't a whole lot done, but man does this car handle well. In the future I'd like to get some light weight race seats and a roll bar. We have a carbon fiber ZL1 hood ready to go on, but I haven't touched the car since November. I enjoy driving it on the street and being smog compliant, but sometime in the future I would like to do a mild cam and tune, nothing crazy. I've been interested in the Katech Torquer to maintain drivability. My warranty is up so I don't have to worry about that anymore, but I wont be modifying the car to the point where I can't put it back to factory anymore. For instance, when we installed the wing I had to find a used red non spoiler deck lid online, so I could save my original. I Bought an OEM Z/28 emblem for it and bam, it looks like the car came that way. My dad made some braces for the wing to make it rigid, because when it was just bolted to the lid it was flexing something terrible. The used lid came with the factory carpet cover, and that hides all the work we did and makes it look factory. The next track day I'd like to return to Buttonwillow, very fun but very difficult track. I run mostly with Speed Ventures now. Used to be with Hooked on Driving. Speed Ventures is more organized when it comes to keeping people from bunching up on the track. They use your times to place you, the faster you are, the farther up in the group you start. With HOD they just let people start wherever they want. There was always traffic on the track because of this, and it takes all the fun away. Anyway, the next thing we do to this car will be the carbon fiber ZL1 hood. Since I'm local to Laguna Seca, I'll probably have to make some "laguna Pipes" for it since the max decibels are somewhere around 90. It turns the sound of the exhaust away from the decibel meter . They flagged me for it last time. I don't post on here a lot, I'm usually working on the truck I drag race. That thing is priority! 800hp Cummins diesel. Best I've done is 10.9 @123mph

I will tell you that it completely changes the car, so much so that I had to relearn how to drive it. I also went from Nitto NT01s to the Eagle Supercar's and man that was huge as well. I had terrible over steer with those tires, and they seemed to get greasy really quickly. I would not recommend them, the Supercars on the other hand I would say might be better than the Trofeos. Thank you everyone else!

very nice. I use the supercars as well, haven't tracked it yet due to dealing with the Hurricane Harvey damage to house (yea still dealing with and seems to be postponing my fun time). My last car had Goodrich G-force tires (not A/s) and were quite sticky after a few laps warm up.

I like the way you mod your car. Just subtle things that you can change back in a weekend instead of tearing into and potentially ruining the car. When you get the carbon hood, can you do a weight test between the factory hood? I'd love to see the weight savings. Same with a different seat.

Re Chuckwalla, most years it’s a combined event, SF and Proautosport, looks like this year it’s just Proautosport. Anyway, awesome crowd, would be great to see you there.
My car has a race seat installed already and Cordes racing are doing the K501 cam, Wcch heads and arh headers next week....am v excited indeed... Steve |
