Any LS3 oil pressure issues during HPDE?

I run a LS3 495 HP GM crate engine in my C5 Z06 HPDE hobby car. It has a baffled C6 oil pan and a Canton Accusump system. Plenty of chatter in the Corvette forum about LS3 engines having oil pressure problems during HPDE events. Funny, I don't recall ever reading a thread or post about this happening in our beloved 5th Gen Camaros. Anyone have (or know of someone) have any oil pressure related failures? I'm thinking this would be on bigger tracks with large sweepers.

I have not had any oil pressure failures in the 3 or so years I have been tracking my 1LE. *knocks on wood*

But I am concerned about this as well. I heard some people had issues but it was due to heat/overheated oil or oil pump failure.
I am very interested in what the experienced guys have to say on this.

For the summer track season, I was advised by the folks here that 5W30 doesn't cut it on track and 5W40 or 10W40 is the way to go. But I am sure you already knew that.

Amsoil Zrod 10W40 is what I run now.
Right after a 20min run on a 90ish degree day, the oil temp will hit about 260 and the oil pressure at idle will be around 22psi. Coolant temp will be abut 210.

I haven't had any issues, yet, with my 15 1LE. However GM used drysumps in the Z28 and Z06 for a reason, not because they are cool.

I'm building a dedicated track car 14 SS. Three different people who raced Camaros told me to go drysump in the track car. I asked about Accsump and each told me this is a band-aide fix rather than a solution. So I'm going drysump. Dry Sump Solutions https://www.drysumpsolutions.com/ls-systems has a very nice system that is more affordable than many I looked at.

Good luck
Craig

I’ve not had any pressure concerns. I do have an AEM pressure gauge reading from the OPSU to keep my eye on it as well. Before my engine rebuild, I just had a Melling 10295 and was running M1 5w30. For the new 379 I used a new 10295 along with the M29500 pickup tube brace, as well as Improved Racing pan baffle and pressure relief plug. Running Brad Penn 10w40 now. Only one track night with the new setup, but all was good.

Great pics! These machines are works of art. Always wondered what the baffles looked like installed. Glad to hear oil pressures are good and I know you take advantage of the power that's available. I wonder if the oil pressure issues are more of a Corvette thing with the LS6 and the different oil pan setup.(?).

If you enjoy pictures, attached is another view of the baffled replacement versus OE. As an aside, I took pictures of every single thing with my new build. I need to get them updated in my build thread, but I digress…

Perhaps it’s a combination of the different pan setup as well as the capabilities between the platforms. Clearly the Z28 proved the Zeta II can do it, but it certainly wasn’t coming as easy as the Corvette. That said - and this is just for posterity - the LS7 and manual transmission Grand Sport LS3 are the only dry sump setups GM have us. Considering the GS is for intents and purposes a Z06 without the LS7, it also makes sense.

5th gen Camaro will never generate the G forces a Vette will, therein lies the issue.

What tire are you on? What level driver are you?

I run Toyo 888s, 315/30/18 square. I just discovered this hobby in the last couple of years so I'm just a novice, 6 track days under my belt. My approach is not to be the fastest guy out there just be the guy having the most fun! I enjoy driving a bit rowdy without ruining somebody else's day. I don't anticipate any problems with my oil delivery system, I was just curious if some of the 1LE or ZL1 guys have any issues.
