They're not going to put a Ferrari V8 into a pickup

no they arent, but they will offer a different lineup. btw the 6.2 is a mistake.

there are vasrious states of tune that FIAT uses in lancia, maserati, and ferrari. sure, the hemi will last for a little while, i put money on chrysler becoming europeanized asap.

Ah I see the point now.

I took his complaint as the V6 isn't significantly better than the V8 not a complaint in comparison to the Stang and Camaro's V6.

Cool.

Chevy just needs to delete the trash can exhaust and tweak the intake/tune to get to 475 (at least on the manual).

If they wanted to they could get there easily... now the risk would be closing the HP gap with the Z a little too much. Now, granted we don't know the Z's official power rating.

On a side note the SRT8 should be aimed at the Z not the SS. The R/T is aimed at the SS.

Rumors are starting that there might be a little sand-bagging going on... might just be wishful thinking though...?

Quote:
Apparently during the presentation for the 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8’s and limited 392 editions, Dodge brand CEO Ralph Gilles was quoted as saying the cars would hit 0-60 MPH in the 3-second zone, indicating an actual horsepower number much higher than 475.

For comparison sake, the mighty 556HP Cadillac CTS-V runs 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. Further, the Cadillac was being tested by Chrysler workers along with the 6.4L 2012 Charger SRT8 and the 555HP BMW X5M with the 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8.
Trying to find out what Ralph Gilles actually said...

Hmmm 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8?

I like the sound of that.

Also, 3 second range for the Challenger? That would be one hell of a feat...

As I said in another thread, 475 hp and 0-60 in 3.9s or less ... not going to happen without some sort of black-voodoo magic.

Reminds me of the time a local Ford dealer was telling me their mustang gt could run the quarter "in like 10 seconds"
It's sad when the consumer knows more about the product than the producer

I don't know.. those eight and nine speed transmission are gonna play a huge role in performance

And on that note.. did anyone catch the "MDS" in the new 6.4?

As far as I know.. the MDS system uses a torque converter.. meaning

Come on.. Chrysler, bad move

Gearing can only do so much without extra grip though.

MDS ... that only means that there will be auto-equiped cars. It doesn't mean that there can't be manuals in others (see Camaro SS and Challenger R/T). Also, I thought the new 8 speed was an auto, a conventional slush-box auto not an automated-manual/dual-clutch unit.

I think it may be rumors run amuck...

Here is one possible source of the rumor:

Quote:
The 0-60 time is from a member who is a dealer that attended the resent dealers meeting in Orlando.

3 secs. was a misspeak by the presenter or misquote.

If you look closely, the brochure does not state 0-60 time.
But now a normally reliable "insider" is talking about a total of 7 engines being available in the 2011 Challenger... even using the manual & automatic variants as separate engines, only 6 can be accounted for. So now the rumors start about a "mystery" engine to be unveiled soon... V10?... Supercharged 6.4L?... Turbo 3.6L Pentastar?... might be all just BS...

Attached is a nice color version of the dealer brochure...
