ZL1 goes 203.5 at Mojave
https://youtu.be/WfeEHEe8lXU
Nickey ZL1 goes 203.5 in the Mojave Magnum. Changed the rear gear to the 3.23 from the 3.73. The shift indicator missed the 1st to 2nd shift, so when the video shows 2nd, it is actually 3rd. That 3.23 gear really stretches out those shifts which helps because the power drops off once in 5th. Last edited by Nickey31; 05-03-2016 at 01:25 PM. Reason: correction |

It went 203.5 in the 1 mile or 203.5 in the 1 and a half mile? I know at Mojave they give you the option of going 1 mile or a Mile and a half.

1.5 miles. Everyone runs the mile and a half and they record your speed at half mile, mile, and mile and a half. The car is a little over 700 whp with only top-end mods. I do open road racing, so the car has a full cage. When I open the hood, most expect to see anything but a stock motor, but it is mostly stock.
I've said it before, and will say it again, these ZL1s can compete in drag racing, auto-cross, road courses, and even land speed events and do pretty well. Sure, we can mod the car to dominate one specific area, but to be able to drive from one event to the next with no changes, and compete, is very impressive. |

Awesome! What do you think it would have run with the 3.73 gears?

Its a manual, so it came with 3.73 rear gear. I had not done Mojave before, so I do not have a direct comparison, but if I were to guess, I think it would be high 180's to low 190's. So far, I am really liking the 3.23 rear gear. Can't wait to take it to the strip. I am guessing my ET will fall, but my trap speed should be high 130's in 3rd gear.
I am doing the standing mile at Silver State next week, which I have done before with the 3.73 rear gear, so I will have a direct comparison. Additionally, I should be able to determine how elevation affects performance. Mojave was at about 2500 ft and my best 1 mile run was at 188 MPH, and SSCC is almost 6500 elevation. We shall see. We don't have a chance against Mark Capener and his 2000 whp Lambo, or the 1250hp Viper, but we will give it all we got and have fun doing it. Last edited by Nickey31; 05-03-2016 at 10:38 PM. |

The race results likely will not be posted until the the end of May, so you may need more popcorn. But in the meantime, here are some more pics from Mojave.
ZL1 and Z28 in line for tech inspection Never seen a motorcycle with 2 NOS bottles on it. Thats a Hellcat Charger completely stripped with NOS. They finally got over 200 MPH after they ripped the side mirrors off. Long lines on Saturday. Sunday went much faster. |

Well guys, I am sorry but we didn't do so well at SSCC.
They do the standing mile in Ely, NV, which is at 6500' elevation and the air was terrible. My car wasn't happy and didn't run real strong. Max boost was only 11-12 psi. Cars that we beat in Mojave, beat us in Ely. The car ran great for the 90 mile open road race. The start of the race is at about 5,500 and the finish line is at 3,800. The car ran strong and we took the narrows at about 115MPH at entrance and were rolling out of the corners at 140 MPH. However our timing was off. Our target was to average 145 MPH and we ended up averaging 145.242 which was good enough for last place for our class. I am super happy with our run in Mojave, but not so happy with SSCC. Next race is at Miller in Salt Lake and then Sun Valley Road Rally against the Bugattis. I am concerned about Sun Valley as it too is at over 6,000 ft elevation. Wish you all success this racing season. |
