Any reason the 4-gauge cluster is located where it is?

I'm wondering why they put the 4-gauge cluster way down behind the shifter. If there's a reading you have to monitor immediately (meaning you don't have time to click through the DIC to find it), I'd think it would be a situation where you wouldn't want to take your eyes that far off the road to read it. Seems like they should have put them closer to the dash, or even along the pillar. I'd rather have that space behind the shifter open to store sunglasses and such, like it is on the 1LT.

What GM was trying to do is bring back the looks of the 4pack gauges they did in the first generation cars. Yes placement for this is not ideal, but someone over at GM got the ok to have them there as they did in the 1st gen as well.

Because the 1st gens had optional gauges down there under U17 gauge option code, I think.

They copied it from the 1st gens, apart of the inspiration for the 5th gen styling along with how the dash is laid out.

I`m with you on that one, it was put in a poor place in the 1st Gen and it`s in a poor place for the 5th Gen too. Who thinks it`s a good idea to basically look down at the floor to check gauges then look back up at the road!?

This. Homage to the console mounted gages in the Gen 1 cars.

Minus 4 guage cluster so if you wanted to it would be a very easy swap plus you could sell the 4 guage cluster for some money

The gauges are located behind the shifter as homage to the first generation Camaro.

The gauges were reasonably easy to see in the '10 through '12 model years but when the MyLink radio was added in '13, it hangs down lower and blocks much of their view.

Thanks, I'll have to look into that and make sure it won't somehow cause warranty issues. Selling it would help pay for the cost of having it removed.

I think it is unique and I like it. I have no problem looking down at the gauges while driving.

Same here. I think it's a nice marriage of modern technology & styling with a little nostalgia ...

+1

I mean, it not the best place to put them, but I can still read it.

And, it plays homage to the original camaro.

I never knew there was a sudden urge to look at your trans temp gauge while driving down the road?!?
