I'm not worried about the time to ship, I just don't know how (yet) to arrange for shipping, so that seemed like an easy option. I'll look into it

A hood is pretty big to ship. Does the seller have the shipping container his/her replacement hood came in (assuming its being sold because it was replaced)?
My biggest concern would be all the plastic and weather stripping (engine cover too) as that is just buttoned in or stuck on. As someone who owns an LS engine that has sucked up lots of water over the years, I assure you that rain coming in through your air filter is not going to harm the engine. Modern vehicles have awesome weather proof electrical systems as well. Now suck up enough to hydrolock it and you have a problem, but as long as you don't ford any rivers on the way there, you'll be fine. Am I the only person who washes down the engine compartment?

I wouldn't worry about the rain much. I occasionally wash the engines in my cars at one of those quarter car washes. The cars start and run fine afterwards and it's never caused any long tem issues either.
