Different birds, different areas, different diets, different times of the year, all can have an effect on how volatile the bird turds. Some areas never have birds with toxic crap, other places have times of the year where the birds are all gettin' high on acid... well, acidic berries, or whatnot. 99% of the bird bombs on my cars over the years have been nothing but a mild irritant, and just needs to be washed off and forgotten. However, a small percentage of those things are corrosive mother cluckers, and I'm pretty sure that had I left them on another ten minutes, they would have eaten through the sheet metal and into the engine block, instead of JUST eating my clearcoat and some of the paint.

A simple Google search can show you plenty of articles to mayos "hidden" uses. But we won't find out if it helps people here cause its appearantly much easier to clay and buffer. Buy all kinds brands of the same citrus cleaner and such. Guys here will wet sand it out before trying a simple trick.

Chances are it's already "ate" into the clear. You can try wetsanding and buffing. If it doesn't come out by wetsanding and buffing.....repaint. No other choice.

I had a California dirty bird sit on my drivers mirror and do his business down the side of my door. By the time I got to it, the corrosive crap ate through the clear coat. I have tried a light rubbing compound to no avail. I spoke to a very knowledgeable guy owning a paint shop. He looked at it and said that he would try a wet sand and then a buff but thought it was through most of the clear coat. He said that most likely it will need a clear coat feather spray to completely remove the etched spot. About $150 to fix
I told my kids that it was open season on any birds on the property. I now hide my car in the garage and everyone got new BB guns for X-mas!

So I clayed it again, and it came out finally. There's still some etching in the paint. I polished it by hand and more of it came out, so I'll orbital polish it. Any suggestions for a buffer?
