Steering wheel cruise control circuit

I was looking at how the cruise control buttons are set up electrically and basically you have a master switch (enable cruise control) followed by 3 momentary switches that create a different resistor network when shorted, so as to produce a different voltage going back to the control module... that's what it looks like anyway. The more alarming thing is that the input and output to this entire resistive network seems to be in series with the airbag coils. I don't know if I'm interpreting the schematic properly but does anyone know if tampering with the cruise control buttons could cause the airbag to deploy by accident? I see this as something I should probably know in advance.
