I've been concerting since 1974 and for me some of the best shows ever were Deep Purple, Rush and KISS in 1976. In the early 80's seeing Tommy Lee's drum set tumble upside down and all around was a shocker for that day and time. Ozzie in the early 80's was a wild show (I got to see Randy Rhodes!). I've seen Metallica, Megadeth, and unknown multitudes of 80's hair bands. I have not been to many bad concerts, but if I had to pick just one "best live band" it has to be KISS.

I bet that was freakin awesome back then! My cousin saw Animals and Wish you Were Here in the late 1970's. That is great music!

I saw Living Colour play with (on the stage at the same time all playing the same song) Bad Brains at the Orpheum in Boston.
I saw the Brian Setzer Orchestra four or five times- excellent live shows every time Seen the Reverend Horton Heat five or six times- great live band Living Colour was probably the best

Pearl Jam, Tool, and Rise Against have put on some of the best shows that I've seen. Lots of runners up though!

Commits weekly crime
|
Even though Rush & Pink Floyd are my favorites (each has their strengths), I want to give a shout out to Yes. I've seen them live several times, as well as ABWH once. They aren't hard rock, but they are progressive rock...and very good live.

Those are definately all good bands live. I'm off now to see The Who Quadrophenia in Nashville. I hope it is good. Mike has seen them before in Memphis in 1981(?). I hope I can at least snap a few decent pics. Here are a few pics of posters & tickets from some of Mike's early years concerts:

Been thinking on it
The most fun was seeing Van Halen two nights, back to back Friday and Saturday shows at an outdoor arena. Coolest show may have been seeing Joan Jett with the Gits as 'Evil Stig'. They burned that place down. It was a show to help fund the investigation of the murder of the singer for the Gits Most interesting show would be one of the 5-6 times I saw Joe Satriani, I couldn't pick which one Most special show would be my first concert- AC/DC Most memorable was the one where I saw my cousin play...and a dude from the crowd died from an OD before the show, bam right there at his table. Crash, there he was, still as an oil painting. Awful place, drug central, glad they closed it a few years later. They took the guy's corpse out and...half an hour later...music! Odd night; of course nobody knew he was DRT (Dead Right There) until later but one look and you could tell that cat was in some serious straits.

The Who was a VERY good concert & show. Still not my favorite of all time but very good. I'll try to post some pics tonight. Gotta get back to work now.
