Lug Nut Torque
Hey All,
Just a heads up, put wheel locks on the wife's 2LT today and the front wheels where not to spec. Manual says 140 FT-LBS, Decided to check the RS/SS while I was at it and the same thing. RS/SS has about 350 miles on it and the 2LT has about 500 miles on it. Y'all might want to check them when you get a chance! |

That seems a bit high. Most cars are somewhere between 80-100 ft ILBS. 140 is the spec for a Kodiak truck if I remember.

we got some strong nuts on this car.... lug nuts that is.
Now I can honestly say that the Camaro's lug nuts require more torque than the civic makes... anyone got a civic i can borrow.... I need to tighten my lug nuts..... lmao

140 FT-LBS Lug Nut Torque
Believe me when I read the wheel lock torque I had to take a double look then went to the owner's manual and sure enough page 11-3 in black and white it says 140 Ft-LBS!

stupid question..how do i check the torque
|
07-23-2009, 12:22 PM | #10 |
with a torque wrench
or std wrench go out handle 1foot apply 100 lbs of weight = 100ft/lbs torque. so if you don't have one you can still get a good feel of how tight the nut (bolt) needs to be. my $0.02 |

The PDF owner's manual posted on this site states what the printed manuals states:
Page 11-3 Wheel Nut Torque 190 Nm 140 ft lb Could the LS steel wheels be the 100 ft lb?

Just spoke with my service writer and mentioned this issue/question.
He we familiar with the topic. He's going to fax me the document stating that 100 ft lb is the corrected figure for the Camaro wheels since there were problems with rotor warping with the higher value. What fun.. I'll post the info from the document when I get it from him.

I just found a GM Si document stating 140lbft! So I guess it is both!. What is interesting is the G8 is 125lbft.and it is the same hub.
thanks mike dms |
