carwash!

do you guys think its true that the drive thru car washes (like at gas stations ect) damage the paint or possibly cause harm to the body? should i just hand wash my car each time? does anyone have an opinion on this?

hand wash, or self service car wash only. my green machine hates those drive thru octopus arms slapping her in the face.

I believe drive through car washes are ok unless it has a brush spinning. The one I go to has cloth strips hanging from the sealing that wipes the car down and after that goes to a hand towel guy.

I either handwash or self service. She has yet to go through an automatic wash and if she did, it wouldnt be one that touched my car.

Those hanging strips that wipe every car that goes through? Hand towels that are used on every car that comes through? No thank you. Search the two bucket method and wash your own car. You'll scratch up your paint less.

I don't think touchless ones are bad for the car. The ones with spinning brushes not-so-much. I have a few touchless carwashes near where I live and they have always been really good. I would handwash my car all the time, but I honestly do not have the time. 29hr/week for work, 18hr/week for class (I grad college next spring), 8hr/week driving, ~15hr/week studying/work related...

I wash my car myself, but not using 2 buckets. I just use one bucket. All the dirt will fall to the bottom, so I don't have another bucket to rinse with like that method.

Yup. Im washing my baby tomorrow so it can be all clean and ready for the bowties to be blacked out and the taillights as well. For the rims, I would recommend turtle wax rim cleaner. It works the best on the stock rims, all you do is spray when the rim is dry and wait 30 seconds, you will see all the dirt slide off. However, you go with a brush or rag to get the rest of the dirt off and the rim comes out shiny clean. I dont know how it works on my new black rims, but I will figure that out tomorrow. Link to the rim cleaner is below...

I would NEVER put my cars through the paint killers.. They use cheap and very harsh soaps. An automated machine cant see if all of the dirt is gone before it starts grinding it all into your paint. I had a friend who rolled out of one of those and it looked like his car was keyed. STAY AWAY! Wash it by hand using the 2 bucket system. Go to youtube and search for junkmans videos or you can find them on the forums...
