You have great taste in cars. The GT350 looked great and so does that ZL1. That was a great write up and appreciate the comparison. I didn't realize the brakes would be so different between the two.
You have to love that shade of blue too, my second favorite color on the ZL1. Just curious, did you buy the GT350 new? Last edited by Snagged; 01-04-2018 at 09:41 AM. |

Congrats and welcome! Your ZL1 looks stunning in blue, and those rims really make it stand out.
Are those Rims new on the 2018 ZL1s?

I did buy the GT350 new and had it almost a full year. The car is a 2017 and has the standard ZL1 wheels installed. The only exterior mods are the tail lights, third brake light and tint. |

I completely agree about the brakes.. I felt that the GT350 brakes were far superior to those of the ZL1. I too already had a moment where I needed to stop quickly and I didn't get a good feel from the brakes.. Fortunately it was at a very low speed so nothing bad happened but I got close.

Based on this list, the Z1 would come in #6 at 96 feet.

The curb weight of both cars is actually pretty close. My guess is the pad composition, booster assist and master cylinder capacities were more optimized on the GT350 brake system.

I made the switch from GT350 to ZL1. I was glad to see it go mainly because I had high oil consumption and it was the Tech Pack.
The ZL1 is a much superior car, save for the GT350 exhaust note. But to me, that is not what I buy a sports car for, is to sound good. It is to perform

I have a Roto-Fab CAI on the way, along with a Tony Mamo ported throttle body. In chatting with Tony, he'd like me to try out the TB first without the CAI for a bit and then add the CAI. He wanted to see what my thoughts were by doing it in a phased approach. I'm cool with that. Speaking of Tony, what a friendly and responsive, down to earth guy! Looks like the TB will ship out Monday, so I should have it around the middle of next week.
Next up to decide what I want to do about tires. I'm debating if I'll just order another set of GY's or if I'll go with a set of Pilot 4S's. Leaning towards the GY's at this point, though the front tires on my car were just replaced with Pilot Super Sport ZP's, so I only have the GY's on the back with 3/32nd remaining. |

I just sold my 17 GT350R and my 17 ZL1 is far superior and a better platform. I didn’t like the lack of low end torque on the R.

It also feels like the power is a little better but, I think most of that is due to improved throttle response- car just feels faster because the lag is reduced. While I believe the car picks up a few HP with it, I also think it would be very difficult to prove because the overall gain w/respect to the total power output would be "within the noise" on a dyno. I have an '18, A10 btw. You? Would love to hear your impressions after you install just the TB. |
