Before the final long straight the Z/28 was almost 10 seconds ahead.

I think the driver took it easy down the final straight, he hit about 160 early in the lap (at 1.09 mark) and accelerated there very quickly going uphill, but seemed to take a while to get there on the long flat straight at the end. I've seen videos of SS's going faster than that on mile runs.

I think its got another 5 seconds in it in dry conditions.
Im unsure why they would release this time when run on a half wet track.

Its impressive, either way.

I look at it this way, in the top 54 all time best laps, surrounded by cars costing well over 100 k are 2 Camaros. A few Vettes, ZR1s and Z06s. Pretty damn good for Chevy and both Camaros

It's also just before the long straight where the ZL1 would have clawed back some time regardless of weather.

2 things I would like to see:

1) Z28 running the ring in same conditions as the ZL1 pass

2) ZL1 running the ring with the wheel/tire combo that the Z28 has.

Unfortunately we won't see either.

But either way, 2 AWESOME CARS and a great time to be a Camaro owner

Too bad that the car is not "legal" in respected organizations... Kind of pointless if you ask me

Agree.

Comparing the Z's IMO is pointless.

Two different drivers, two different lines, two different sets of conditions. I believe both of these cars are capable of even faster times, but in the end these are one name, Camaro, posting lap times even or better than so called "supercars".

I'm just very impressed with what Chevrolet has done with these cars, in an era where hybrids rule.

Yeah, is it possible it couldn't pull the hill? 6000rpm should be a sweet spot power-wise. Was he holding back?
Noticed he had to pedal it a bit before the straight, but only a few turns.
I'd guess 7:35 in the dry, but who knows.
The ZL1 has more power up top, and weight isn't a huge factor at 160mph, mostly drag and HP.
80hp is a big deal.
Anyway, killer time. They should be proud.

I'm also a little disappointed with the time. I think the 305s on the front did most the work. I wanted to see it beat the GTR. If Nissan can do it, why can't we?

No point getting into a "zl1 modded vs z28", etc, war. they're the same platform, so it hardly matters. z28 brakes and tires on a zl1? how about a supercharger on the z28? etc, etc. its kind of never ending.

End of the day, the ZL1 will still be a better street car, Z28 will be a better track. You can make the zl1 a better track car at the cost of streetability, and make the z28 more streetable by making it less trackable. period.

Pretty Amazing Time considering the light rain after the 6 min mark. I bet this was a special video trip and they took the best timed video from a series of vids. If the track was dry, I bet it would beat 7:35.

Great Job GM !! Dodge has a few dogs in the Nurburgring race - Where's Ford???

Pretty impressive, especially when you also consider the low temperatures (you can see the out side temperature on the radio at points). It was 56 degrees with the track probably being in the 30 degree range, it was more then just the rain slowing the Z/28 down. Something tells me that when they post a dry weather lap time we will see this car break into the 7:20 range.

After re watching the video and paying close attention he is having traction issues through out the whole run, the ambient temperature in the car starts at 56 degrees and drops to 55 degrees. There are sections in which he isn't pushing the car at all. Toward the end of the run he certainly started to back off on the throttle a good deal as well, toward the end the ZL1 Camaro is taking corners at higher speeds then the Z/28.
