Walmart is a good quick source for ammo as their stock has increased again. For speciality or bulk I use ammunitiondepot.com.

They currently have Federal 5.56 NATO 62 Grain XM855 Green Tip FMJ on sale for .35 a round in a 120 round ammo can. About $168.00 for 480 rounds plus shipping.

They have some Wolf 7.62x54 20 round box for 9.57 or .48 a round.

I buy my Federal HST .45 for personal carry xd mod 2 or colt 1911.

Thanks for the recommendations. I have to figure out where I'm going to go to shoot to find out if they allow magnetic or prohibit it.

Oh yeah. I uploaded a bunch of pictures. http://imgur.com/a/YNS4T

They encompass the first Mosin Nagant site on the net and Finnish rifles are definitely part of their expertise.

+1 on Gunboards. I joined them last year after being bitten by the milsurp bug. A great place for knowledge and sharing. Get used to opening your wallet; you'll come to find out one isn't enough.

What do you guys recommend for a AR-15, in the 500-600 dollar range?

When talking about buying a premade AR, go with any of them. There are only a few manufacturers of the parts that supply all the big companies. The parts that go into $1,200-$1,500 Colts are the exact same parts that go into a $500 Del-ton, they are just stamped differently depending on the gun makers.

When talking about building, now this discussion is entirely different and you will get a bunch of different opinions.

I'm sure a build is going to cost more than $600 though. I've never built one but why build one for 600 when you can buy it for that much. Builds are custom to what you want. A better way to go if you have the $$. Get it soon though. With all of the shootings happening we most likely won't see these sport gun for very much longer. Because of a few idiots, lives are destroyed and the honest gun owners will be the ones paying for it. Sad.

Save time and aggregation and buy a manufactured ar.
Sure you can assemble one but you don't want to chase gremlins when it doesn't cycle reliably.

Also - Frankenstein guns are not appealing in the resale market.

No plans to build one, so look at a $500 Del-ton?

I'm not the best one here to recommend a brand since I have only owned one AR. However, I think it's good to know your options.

For starters, the Sporter models generally have no rails, no forward assist, come with a fixed tall front sight, and a crude trigger. I'm sure I missed something, but this is the entry level rifle with limited options.

Step up to the tactical models and they may not come with any sights, but have rails to hang flip sights, scopes, foregrips, lights, lazers, bipods, grenade launchers, night scopes, heavier barrels, etc.
