I know this is an old thread but 58K mine airbag light came on. Only comes on when I turn left. I can recreate the problem at will. Going to the dealer in the morning to have it looked at. I keep thinking it is some sort of short in the steering column.

I have the same problem, dealer wants to charge a lot of money to look at the car. Not fond of paying for the diagnostic test and then going from there. Should i take the tsb to the dealer and ask about that?

Yes! Print the TSB out, carry it into the shop!

I recently went through this problem... took it to one GM dealership. The charged me $104 for the estimate, and didn't know anything about any TSBs (nor did they feel like bothering to search). I am fairly certain that the "service rep" who I dealt with did not even know what a TSB was. They quoted me $1400... they wanted to replace everything.

I went to a SECOND dealership (yes, another $104 for a quote, but I was assured that this would be applied towards any repair made). There, they knew what a TSB was, they looked them ALL up, and they understood my reasoning that it was unlikely that all airbag components had simultaneously failed. It was still pricey, but I got out of there for $905, repair complete.

I was unable to get any independent shop to look at the car--- all said it was a dealer- only repair. So, yes, you have to pay the premium prices for dealer service. I am told that diagnosis and repair require proprietary programming equipment that ONLY GM dealerships have.

(Incidentally, I TRIED to get clever... I tried to bypass the PPS (passenger presence sensor, a high- dollar part, AND hard labor... the most likely part to fail), and "trick" the system into thinking that there was always a passenger present. I am fairly convinced that this is impossible.)

I've got this problem happening AGAIN myself

Took my Camaro in a couple of years ago and they replaced the sensor and that didn't work. They kept working on it and said it was a broken wire and replaced that as well. Everything was covered under warranty. It was fine for a couple years and now it's happening again.

At this point my car is past warranty (145,000 km) and want $750 to replace the sensor.

Is there any way to tell if this update has been applied to my car? I did buy it used in 2010.

I'm a little leery about my dealership. They also told me I had a major oil leak and it was a $3500 fix. No oil on my garage floor...
