Ford has been running a lot of Mustangs advertisements on TV. I have never seen a dedicated Camaro ad. Perhaps the power of persuasion worked.

I knew when I clicked in this thread, this would be the kind of reaction I would be seeing from a lot of the Camaro faithful. Relax, it's not like there was a dramatic swing away from the Camaro to the Mustang. Camaro sales seemed to be about where they have been the last few months, but I believe what you are seeing on the Mustang side is two different things taking place:

1) As some have said, if you were looking to get a deal on a Mustang with the new bodystyle and really did not care about performance numbers compared to its direct competition, you couldn't find a better time to buy a 2010 Mustang.

2) The 2011 Mustangs, with their new and ultra-hyped powertrains started hitting the dealers in full force in May. While the demand for the 2011 version of Ford's ponycar is probably not as strong as it was for the Gen5 Camaro when I was introduced after a long hiatus, there is still a strong demand for the improved performance in the 2011 Mustang.

These two thing together, I believe, accounts for the big jump in sales. I also predict this will not be one month-and-done thing and expect the Mustang to outsell the Camaro throught the summer, or at least until the Camaro convertible hits the dealer lots.

Sometimes you just have to accept the fact that the Camaro will never replace the Mustang as America's favorite ponycar.

I hate to say this, I might get killed on here but a part of me wishes I had gotten the Challenger over the Camaro. I'm starting to see a bit too many Camaro's on the road. You see a Challenger here and there but that "exclusivity" feel you get beats having a car of the masses in my opinion. Long-term I'm gonna bet the Challenger will be worth more.

I still love my Camaro and would take it over a Mustang no question. Mustangs are like I dunno, just not cool. That's nicest way to say they stink like poo.... Well you know what I really want to say but eh....

They are all mass-produced vehicles, so if you purchase any of them looking for some sort of feeling of exclusivity, you've already failed. Yes, the production numbers on the Challenger are less than the Camaro and Mustang, but they are not rare by any means. Heck, they sold almost 32,000 cars in 2009 alone. That's more Challenger's sold in one year than GT500's built between 2007 and 2010!

As far as long-term value goes, if you are buying a car today for what you think it might be worth in the future, you are buying for the wrong reason. Buy the car that brings the biggest smile to your face when you get behind the wheel and drive it often!

+ 1

We are truly blessed to be living during this rendition of the HP wars. I for one never thought we would see this again. As a 39 year old I grew up with a bunch of crap made by the big3 and every other manufacturer, these last 10 years have been awesome for car enthusiast...

Hey, if it makes you feel special to think you drive some sort of exclusive, mass-produced (an oxymoron, by the way) vehicle, more power to ya!

Ya, did you notice their ad indicates how they've "Transformed" - boy didn't they steal that from another something else, hummmm...

Ford is also throwing out 0% financing too - so they're going full force with the sales push...

We'll give them May.. Now that 2011 Camaro pricing is out with $0 increase and only $350 for 2LT and 2SS's - I'll bet those on the fence will so in and order...

Great graphs BTW, thankx for sharing with us.
