Bought a Passport 8500 from BB as it seemed to be the best bang for the buck. After a week of using it I realized I'd like to know which direction the radar is coming from. I ordered a V1 and took back the Passport when it arrived. I really like knowing which direction the radar is coming from and also knowing how many radar sources are being picked up.
I can say that the Escort GPS/radar units make a lot of sense. V1s patent for the direction expired in March so I expect many of the other manufacturers to start using this in their units. I may switch to the GPS unit if and when they add the directional tech. if I don't have factory GPS. |

9500ix user. Really awesome device. Only drawbacks are the cord, but you could run a fixed line up to it. And, since it needs to pick up satellites, it has to be down on the dash or windshield. GPS won't work on the visor.
Warns about 1/8 mile ahead when there's speed or red-light cameras. You can manually mark false alarm locations or let it do it automatically after three false alarms. Around here they mount radar guns up on highway signs and this unit will learn this and stop sounding the alarm. Worth the money, pretty slick unit. If you have bottomless wallet, you can add the lasor shifters and connect to the 9500ix. They mount behind the front grill and rear license plate (where the LEO's aim). I have picked up a lasor gun with it, but you better be quick on the brakes, only had about two seconds before it was on full alarm. Yes, it does pick up radar WAY ahead of the LEO using it. |

Passport 8500 X50
Police only use Ka in my area, and it picks up signals from very long distances. Only problem is either the POP mode does not work or some police cars keep the system completely off. Passed plenty of cop cars without a peep from the detector. Due to this unknown, it would probably not save me from a ticket unless other cars are ahead being checked for speeding, but since I don't race around in traffic...it helps with slowly down when going a little bit over the speed limit. Also, the factory windshield bracket blows...too small, so the top front of the detector hits the windshield on bumps and gets annoying...overall a great detector and destroys my previous Cobra on distance. |

I use the Passport 9500ix, I love it! The price is up there but worth it. The V1's are awesome also but the 9500ix has more features and better updated.

I don't think we are going to agree on this one my friend. The radar units are old school, yeah they still work so depts will continue to mount them for moving radar. All the new tech switched years ago to perfecting laser and now it's cost effective to purchase vs. radar. In the legal arena there is little to no argument against the laser--its simple to use, the accuracy and range is just too great, and there's no guess work as to who was the one speeding. All the mass enforcement or "traps" as you guys call them--they all utilize the laser now. Maybe my viewpoint is biased towards the Eastern half of the country because I live on the Coast but all the guys I know and wherever I have traveled--they all use LIDAR either exclusively or have both while they are on patrol.

Passport 9500ix.
Saved my butt when I had my Mustang. Well, guess it really didnt because I wasnt speeding that day. Anyway was going home while on the interstate and the detector went off and stopped, hmmm, no big deal was going by airport and sometimes goes off. Went off again, whiskey tango frank!!! Looked around, nothing. Dang thing went off again. Check the rear view mirror and see a State Trooper popping in and out from behind a semi, lol, sneaky. |

Escort Passport 9500ix mounted near the roofline on a Southern Car Parts visor mount. Works beautifully and no problems with satellite reception for the GPS. Hardwired in and you really can't tell it's there from outside the vehicle unless you know exactly where to look at what you're looking at.
Once you drive your normal routes a few times the 9500ix becomes very quiet and you can be confident that an alert is an LEO.

I use a Whistler 555 with red text display or a Passport 8500 with blue text display.
Just depends on my mood. Both work flawlessly and have saved my bacon many times. |

I think it's pretty much down to this for me from what I've read-
City Driving = Escort 9500ix or Bel GX 65 Highway Driving = Valentine 1 All others are really inferior going through test reports from different sources. I wouldn't waste money on anything else. The Valentine gives too many false alarms in urban settings. 9500ix's autolearn feature is pretty sweet. The best jammer appears to be Laser Interceptor brand, but not sure if I want to spend the $$ on them since they might soon be illegal in Texas. I also saw somewhere that the patent is up on the V1's arrows, so they may be showing up in other brands soon. |

Redline trumped the V1 in everything but rear detection distance.
