Check your oil every time you fill up.

so isnt the best time to check it when the car is cold?

True, best time is to check is cold, especially important if you are checking too dd oil. check at fill Up and will show low but within the normal range on the stick.

This seems like a common "mistake"...the %oil life has nothing to do with the actual reading on the dipstick...check your oil when you gas up, what have you got to lose??

Keep a good eye on your oil lvl, there is about 8 reports on this forum alone of oil "dissappearing" from the LLT engines and the engines seizing up! Not something you, myself, or anyone want to think of dealing with, check the bolt ons and troubleshooting ection, there is several threads on this, I check y oil once a week and am strongly considering trading in for an SS for this reason. I got a 6 for cost efficiency since it is my only car (daily driver) but if i have engines blowing and trannys going out.. not so sure how econimical thatr is going to be in the long run.

These reported problems worry me too, but I've yet to have to add a quart between oil changes. Mine seems to be working well, I'll just keep checking my oil regularly, and keep up with those scheduled oil changes, and watch for drips where I park at night.

No offense to blade - he seems like a good guy. But understand he drove a long way, to a drag strip, and the engine popped at the strip. Blade did not check his oil level during the trip or at the strip.

Also, for the gen5 camaro there are more reports of v8 failing than v6. Trading to an 8 because you are worried of a v6 failure may not be the best logic.

All,of that said - I was watching the British version of top hear and they were driving some Honda car, and I think the announcer said something like 2.9 million engines built and not a single reported failed engine. Kinda makes you wonder ....

Did you search in the V6-specific forum? There's tons of threads in there on the subject, albeit many of them start out about people running out of oil entirely and their engine seizing.

Basically, expect to burn about a quart of oil every 2,000 miles -- more if you drive your car spiritedly/aggressively.

Mine has 14,000 mi and has never burned a drop however. I change oil by the meter, and have the dealer do the changes using the GM spec oil.
I imagine you broke yours in hard and the rings seated correctly. Following the owners manual break-in is almost guaranteed to result in poor ring seating.

I've said this once and I'll say it again and again and again, IGNORE the OLM. The newer Camaros (2011's actually built in 2011+) and ones that had a flash done are WAY more conservative with the OLM readings. I’ve noticed I go down 1% every 50 miles ( +/- a couple of miles) regardless how I drive, that means I'll be at 0% at exactly 5k miles. I truly believe if you’re under the new OLM system it's based on actual miles, no longer on actual driving conditions. I'm thinking GM knew there was some sort of problem with the way the OLM did its calculation on the V6’s and made a sever change.

For the record I have yet to burn any unusual amount of oil. My last oil change at 4K miles I was about 1/5 of a quart low (I'm running Mobil 1)

Change every (and check regularly)
3K if using standard oil
<5K is using synthetic

That's why you need to change your oil at the dealer. And you might not have this problem. I'm at 40% and my oil is always in the same mark.

Here are some of my oil readings from my onstar report that show I go though 1% evey 50 miles (+/- a couple of miles) or so:

Email Date% ----Remaining Oil Life----Odometer (Miles)
06/21/2011-------------96-------------------------135
07/22/2011--------------78------------------------1151
08/21/2011-------------100-----------------------2444
09/20/2011-------------87-------------------------3129
10/19/2011-------------69-------------------------4047
11/19/2011-------------51--------------------------4991
12/19/2011-------------99--------------------------5691

Today my milage is at 6477, my OLM is at 84%. That's 838 miles since my last oil change, 838/16% off the OLM shows it's going down 1% every 52.37 miles.
