Protecting Paint while towing across country

So i had a quick one for you guys.

About six years ago i moved from san francisco to south florida and towed my car the whole way with a moving truck.. The problem i ended up having is the diesel soot an fuel just caked all over the front of the car..

I would stop as often as i could, whenever i would find a truck wash station and spray it off.. but a couple of long stretches i couldnt find anything, got caught in the rain, and the diesel actually ran and stained the white paint rather permanently... since then ive replaced the front bumper..(ZL1) and would like to avoid this problem in the future..

so, now im moving back from virgina to southern california this summer..

so just wondering , aside from getting and enclosed trailer ($$$) is there anything i could do to help prevent this, or anything you guys have done/seen done.

Attached a picture of the white paint... just cause. lol

Thanks for any help!

Haha I would but I'm on a time frame for work and have to move all my crap, 2 motocycles, a subaru and a truck . Lol . all in a big caravan with my wife basically towing the Subaru behind the truck with the motorcycles in the bed and the camaro behind the moving truck.

I just requested a quote to see how much it will cost to just ship it in an enclosed trailer.. but I'm sure that will be pricey

You could cover the front with blue painters tape. Then just clay the vehicle as soon as you get to your destination.

Pre-trip I'd suggest a good coat of protection on the painted finish; wax, synthetic sealant, or a ceramic coating to protect the paint.

IF you decide to cover parts of the car, please make sure it is immaculate and clean first.

But I agree, get some vinyl, or painter's tape.

http://www.transportwrap.com/ is pretty much the stuff that dealers use when transporting cars.

Thanks for the tips guys! I keep the car pretty clean and garaged 90% of the time ..but I'll just wash and clay bar it first right before...

I'm really just worried about the front bumper and fenders. Those were the trouble spots last time

I got a quote to ship it in an enclosed trailer.. 2300 bucks . So that's not happening .. haha

That will trap moisture.

Go with the Painters Tape

Ok, I haven't done this yet but I'm thinking about trailering our car to Camarofest from Wisconsin. I have trailered my boat from Wisconsin to Florida with the boat cover on it and some clear vinyl tape on spots. Can you get a all weather car cover that you can keep on during towing. Easier to clean the cover than the car. My car cover fits pretty tight but is an indoor cover. I'm pretty sure I'd have issues in the rain. Just my 2 cents.
