While the camaro can be made serviceable - considering the investment (and there's no getting around the fact that it's low slung and rwd) - why not get a beater jeep for a couple of thousand and call it a day? If its limited mileage or seasonal use - most insurance companies will let you do partial year coverage, to save on that too.

I'm a long time jeeper and as long as you educate yourself before buying - you can get a solid machine for 1500 to 3k. (cherokee, grand cherokee, etc) - figure on more if you want a wrangler (they hold their value better - but if its the soft top only - not the best choice for snowy winters - plastic gets brittle and cloudy after a few years)

Here's my jeep GC 5.9 this past winter. There was no way the camaro would have handled this, and i *hate* shoveling out a car lol.

I drove last winter with only the all weather tires. We usually don't have much snow/ice in Tennessee but last winter was worse than usual. One particular day I was caught in Nashville (aprox 35 mi from home) when it started snowing hard & accumulating fast. My hubby was worried so he met me half way to follow me. There was about 6 inches of snow & roads were a solid sheet of ice with snow on top. I made it home without even slipping once (with lots of hills & curves along the way). You should be fine with snow tires. Just drive smart.

Its been posted before, but I'm going to restate. The RS package (Pirellis) are not the best or suited for snow driving, turning, and stopping. With that said, I drove my 1LT/RS most of last winter and there were only a couple of days that I had to white knuckle it. Just take it slow and easy if you need to drive with the Pirellis. I will definitely be getting a tire and wheel package that is more suited for snow. Just waiting for a special from Tire Rack.

And yes, I live in the dreaded western part of Michigan.

I drove my 2SS all winter. It handled fine after fresh snow. You just need to drive like a grandma and don't give it a ton of gas around turns.

LOL...I hate the whole FWD is better BS that some people talk about.

The big issue with driving in the snow is driving the conditions of the road. I used Continental Extreme DWS tires last year here in Seattle. We didn't get a huge amount of snow, but I went through 4 bouts of snow, some 6" and greater...with no problems.

With a combination of good tires, traction control, and driving as the conditions dictate...I had no problems whatsoever. One of the times was through 8-9" fresh slush, and I have the GFX...no problems.

My first purchase after buying my 2011 2SS/RS last November was an 18 inch set of Blizzak WS70s and rims. Drove all last winter, never missed a day of work due to not being able to drive. My commute is nearly 50 miles one way, and I live in southeast Michigan. One time I had to pull around and pass a Silverado 4X4 going up a icy hill because he couldn't get traction. The look on his face when I passed him was priceless! If you live in snow country and want a Camaro, you will have to buy snow tires. They don't look as pretty as the stock wheels and tires, but they work very well. BTW, the vehicle I had before the Camaro was an AWD Trailblazer SS. The Camaro works just as well......

I'll just state that I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada AKA Winterpeg. This city is known for the worst winters in all of North America.

I am buying an LS and slapping on some winter tires to those ugly Heritage wheels this November. And I will drive this car year round!

These fifth gens are not really lower to the ground than many cars on the road today. My dad's VW Golf is just as low as the Camaro, I'm pretty sure. RWD is definitely the worst between AWD and FWD, but it isnt too much of a headache. Keeps it interesting.

To the OP: There you have it. Some folks do very well with a RWD in snow and others prefer to spare their Camaro the "hardship" of snow duty and have a 2nd fwd/awd vehicle for just such occasions.

It's just something you'll need to try for yourself. Only you can determine what your comfort level is / will be with a particular vehicle driven in a specific weather condition. As someone else mentioned, Camaros with the RS package come with "Summer-only" tires.
