Power steering groaning?
Whenever i turn slowly or back up slowly (v6 14 camaro 2LT Manual ) I hear like a electronic/groan/moan coming from the front. Even sometimes just sitting idle, i can slightly hear it.. Just like a slight constant noise.
my steering wheel sounds like a zipper/squeel during slow speed turning. Any thoughts what this could be? Last edited by ShadowYYZ; 05-09-2017 at 08:09 AM. |

You won't see any leaks as you have electronic power steering.

Sounds like a bad steering rack. My electric steering is silent.

V6 Camaro's most definitely have regular old hydraulic power steering. NOT electronic like the V8's have.
Here is a picture showing where the power steering pump is on the LFX. It's under the plastic engine cover on the drivers side front. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/cimg/www.ls1...er3-141576.jpg |

First thing I'd check is the level and condition of the power steering fluid.

I would start with a good ol' fashioned bleed... really pretty easy, not a messy task. In short, you'll jack up the front end of the car, and place in it jack stands. Then, slowly turn the wheel lock to lock, slowly, a number of times (20? 50?) with the vehicle off. Then, do the same with the vehicle running. This should clear out any air bubbles that might be in your system, possibly creating the noise you are getting.
I recommend YouTubing the bleed process, where you'll get better info than my vague memory of how to do it... |

So, I called the service manager and stated to go in tommorow. Drive around to replicate the issues, i hope this will grab the attention surely. After going back 3 times over the same issue. I feel embarrassed, never was assertive person.

Just keep in mind certain people will detect that you are a bit passive and prey on that, taking advantage of you in the process. Especially when it has to do with money, such as a dealer service bay.

That Zipper sound and that Squeal are a sure sign your too lonely in Oklahoma......and some local Yocal is there in his big rubber boots watchin.....
ROFL I just had too I cant resist.... That may be belts slip also...... check the belt and the thing should be dry clean/unfreyed and you can get a can of belt dressing if needed. If air in the system it takes time to work out....

Ask the dealership to change out your PS fluid and replace it with the latest greatest automatic transmission Dexos.
