How to Select the Right Flowmaster Muffler - Muffler Series Differences Explained

“Which Flowmaster muffler is right for my car?"

Because Flowmaster offers over a dozen different series of street mufflers, the answer to this question will vary depending on the make, model and performance needs of your vehicle, your personal sound preferences, budget, etc. Summit Racing Equipment spoke with Flowmaster's VP of Sales, Alex Ortega, to help narrow down your choices and give you a better idea of what to expect from each series of Flowmaster muffler. Incredibly informative. Would love to hear some solid exhaust audio in real-world applications.

Thanks!

We try to make it a point to get a sound video of all of our Cat-back and Axle-back kits.

Due to the variety of mufflers, vehicles, engine options and exhaust configurations, it is difficult for us to make videos of every possible setup. There are also many more variables that come in to play when determining tone and volume; so it's entirely possible that your car would sound different than the ones in our videos after a muffler swap.

If you are interested, there are several things you can do. We do have videos of many of our kits on our YouTube page, and you can find the muffler information for each kit on the Flowmaster website. Some of our kits use custom-built mufflers or kit-only mufflers for fitment or sound; but many of them are derived from or closely related to something else we already offer. Many muffler shops will also let you test out various different mufflers on your vehicle. That way, you can hear them in person prior to final installation.

We also have videos where we test multiple different Flowmaster mufflers on the same application:

Here's a testing video of 7 different Flowmaster mufflers on a Small-Block Chevy 406ci.
Here's a testing video of 7 different Flowmaster mufflers on a Small-Block Chevy 355ci.
Here's a testing video of 8 different Flowmaster mufflers on a classic Challenger with a 408ci engine.

Regardless of the engines these mufflers were tested on, these videos should help give you a feel for the different characteristics of various Flowmaster mufflers.
