I am relocating to Nogales, AZ from Philadelphia, PA and need tips on how to prepare for this long long journey. Yes I will be driving the Camaro down.

I always go to the dealership for long trips and have them "check for roadtrip". Fluids, tires, air in the spare etc......Most will do this for free.

If you DIC tells your oil change is 40% away you should be fine on the LTT. Just do the basics like checking your tires and fluid levels. You'll probably want to get a warm weather battery when you get here because the heat will kill the one in your car. Incidentally there is a Camaro club out here with 300 something people (Arizona All Gens) that is all over the state. One final thing, do a full detail when you get here. I did a similar drive from Detroit to Phoenix 10 years ago when I moved here and you'll need it.

What's your budget?

Alot of people are going to say Bel GX65 or Valentine 1 or Escort 9500xi. All are about $450-500. All are excellent but I disagree.

In my view, I would get the Bel 955 for about $150 or the Bel 995 for $225. Both will give you 95% of the warning distance of the expensive ones but the 955 will have significantly more false alarms and the 995 will have slightly more false alarms.

If you want an expensive one I would get the Escort Passport IQ. This is about $650. It tests the same as the Escort 9500 but also is a GPS and you can plug it into your computer and it downloads known traps and speed and red light cameras to notify you of those as well. Also since it just looks like a GPS cops don't give it a second look.

Be aware however that many areas now use LIDAR (laser) enforcement and detectors do not go off until too late, there are some jammers which help but are not foolproof protection.

Also along with what others are saying here, get a good wax job on the car, it will make cleaning it a lot easier when you get to AZ.

...and that's why I try to read all posts before I make my own. I agree, wax that sucker, just before you go.

If not already turned on, OnStar, or perhaps even LoJack. I'm in Tucson and well, some places are not exactly the safest place to be. I hope you have a secure garage to park it in once you get here. Also, if not already done, get the windows tinted as dark as legally permissible. Every day for the past week my Camaro has read 106 degrees consistently. I don't think Nogales is as bad as Tucson at the moment, but nonetheless, it's HOT with no relief in sight.

Also, I'm not sure what's going on with the Arizona-New Mexico wildfires or how much damage to the infrastructure it's done, but I'd check the highways you'll be taking in the general area with like news agencies here just to make sure you will be using roads that still exist.

You don't need a RADAR detector if you choose not to violate the speed limit..

I took two lengthy road trips in my SS and just did the basic systems and fluid checks one should be doing on a regular basis.

The biggest thing you need to do is to enjoy your car and the trip.

Onstar is virtually useless to anyone other than a novice thief. He is so close to the border, none of that would really matter anyways, one would think.
