Is the bottom of the oil fill cap a milky white mush? If so, it's likely the head gasket. Either way it doesn't sound like you need a motor, just a good diagnosis.

if temp gauge is correct, sounds like you losing coolant. are you having to add coolant? this could be a coolant leak somewhere (could be head gasket, could be a hose). You can have your cooling system pressure checked pretty cheap.

the oil loss could be a different problem. adding a 1-2 quarts of oil every few months isn't ideal, but lots of engines use oil and run fine. E60 M5's notoriously consume lots of oil.

In addition to gaskets already mentioned in other posts ... the external engine oil cooler on the side of oil pan is connected to coolant lines.

I'm also losing oil, bought 2 quarters about 1 month ago and I low on oil again, oil level is at the bottom of the dipstick. The temperature was good around 196 and yesterday out of nowhere the temperature increase like crazy. No cold stray issues, no white/blue smoke at the cold start
Given the symptoms, it could be a relatively minor issue such as a leaking or blown head gasket. However, if you continue to drive it without getting a good diagnosis and fixing the problem, it could become a much bigger/major issue.

How many miles are on your ride? Front end crash could have started the problem, unseating a gasket. At least the previous owner told you about the crash, I figure you got a steal on the price so go ahead & take it in for service, dealer or trusted independent shop. A new engine would cost a ton of money & 2012 isn't that old.

Yea I'm just going to stop driving the car and my uncle might come today to give a look he's a mechanic. I bought the car for $19,000. My car has 50k miles. Hopefully it's a small problem :(

It could be just the gasket, or it could be a cracked block if you are losing oil fast.

This is a tough call, because chasing the problem could end up costing as much as a crate engine.

I would go after the guy who sold you the car. He should share the cost of the repair with you or face legal action.

Hmm 2012 would it not still have some powertrain warranty left? 5 years and 100000 miles I believe you would have on that 2012? Or is it over 5 years on the road since original purchase?

Might want to check on remaining Powertrain warranty on it from GM?

buuut - if he had a catchcan on the coolant lines, it would have caught all that stray oil from even getting in the radiator! haha

Don't make a major purchase until you know what's going on.

Head gaskets + decking the heads is way cheaper than buying an entire long block.
